  1. As much as EK was never the right fit for this team, should have went for Chychrun before Ottawa or DC got him. Younger, Cheaper, Better.

As much as many of us want EK gone, you cant simply just trade away an 11M contract for peanuts just because fans and media want him out. As of right now, you'd have to find a team that needs cap floor help as well as add in picks/prospects to get them to take him.

Best bet right now is let EK play and HOPE he has a good first half and a contender gives a call around the trade deadline. Get some young talent or picks and prospects without having to eat half of that 11M contract

  2. DK as for your cap spending question, I can see Dubas saving a chunk for in season or deadline trades.

The BIG question is how much the team does next year. Do we win McKenna? Probably not, but with half the team on 1 year deals or expiring contracts, next off season the Pens should be the top 10 in available cap space to go out and get some young UFAs or even RFAs.

  3. Karlsson is the type of player/contract that dubas *acquires*. In a vacuum he should be kept. But if everyones attitudes are as bad as DK says then MO goes out the window i guess

  4. I think the most likely outcome here is that they keep him most of this year. Instead of packaging idk, 2 2s to move 2 years of karlsson and his whole contract out, you can maybe deal one 2nd rdr to deal 1 yr of karlssons contract. I dont think they wanna hamstring the 2026-27 club with salary retention

  5. My question is this: if Dubas is working with the 13 million that he hasn't spent, and is unwilling to retain a portion of Karlssons salary, who or what are we going to get back that would consume the 11 mil of cap space that would open up on top of the 13 mil remaining? This is why I personally never thought Karlsson would be traded, at least not before the trade deadline.

  6. They know with the question mark in net that this upcoming season probably is not going to get them in the playoffs. If I were Kyle dubas I would wait until just before Christmas to release Eric Carlson. The goaltending is going to dictate what is going to happen this year

  7. Bad deals for Karlsson?

I’d rather have kept Granlund and the pick that became Sam Dickinson.

Sullivans system was to blame for Granlund’s play. He was worth the 5 mil.

  8. Good morning DK, I'm Canadian and when it comes to our talented young defenseman, I couldn't agree with you more! He's 100% ready for the AHL!! As for my fellow countrymen who gave you a number of comments regarding how our Canadian system needs to have a feeder system protected….I can appreciate their wanting to keep our talent, but at what cost? Stalling the kids development? So that there is talent beneath the professional levels? How about young Canadian kids who have outgrown those feeder leagues but now have to stay there because their age, ridiculous! Anyways Dk, thank you like always my man. Blessings, Victor from Canada 🇨🇦

  9. There are teams with an excess of LHD, it seems like we could trade EK for one of them. If it were that simple, it would have already been done.

My guess, is to get one of the excess LHD, we would retain money, give up a draft pick or prospect, and we would get a younger cheaper but not better version of EK on a 7 year 7 mill contract. Think Bowen Byram.

  10. Thank you DK. The defense needs to get better, but it's going to take a lot of work. Left hand defenseman , Goalie. I'm still excited to see how it all plays out this season. Great show DK.
