NO they shouldn't if he wanted out he would of told the team already and a trade will be made.
McDavid is gonna walk, no chance he guts the team he wants to actually sign for, through trade. McDavid has been a no show both finals, why pay him 16M and make your team worse?
If he wanted to sign, he would be signed, it's not like he can't control his own salary or term. Hes going to get whatever he wants it's not like other guys who have contract years and try to perform better, Connor perform s the best in the league every year.
Kaprisov will get done first at 16Mx8… and you can bet your ass McDavid AINT taking a pay cut and signing for 16M when he could easily get 18M+ with the Leafs for the same term before getting 20M+ 3 years from now. Leafs are the better team to beat Florida. Oilers are worse, in cap hell, and McDavid knows it. It's not about money for him, and he's not going to commit to a worse Oilers team. It's not complicated, but everyone has no balls to make bold takes, and Oilers fans can't handle the truth lol.
Most intelligent thing Edmonton could do is trade McDavid and get a huge package for him. Because he isn't staying in Edmonton. It's obvious he's letting down Edmonton and The Oilers easy.
They'd be smart to trade him and build a team around Draisetl. Probably better chance of winning a cup that way then paying McDavid and Draisetl almost 40% of your CAP.

He can have the money, or he can chase Cups. He can't do both. See both Crosby and Michael Jordan for examples. We'll see where his real priority lies.

If the conversation is going to be about him wanting a cup then there is literally no other team in the league closer than Edmonton to that. If it’s making bank then maybe there could be some contenders for him, but they would likely be teams that aren’t as close and have more cap space. We’ll have to see how the season plays out (which is what I think he’s planning on doing as well).
It's a distraction cause Canadian media makes it so. Mcdavid wants to win who can blame him. He's performed at every level for this team. It's not his fault the Oilers can't get a competent goalie or sign role players to bad deals.
I'm not worried at all. He wants guarantees for success. If he signs now, the Oilers can sit on their asses for a decade and still see the money rolling in.

My response is that Oiler fans should be at least somewhat concerned because the start of training camp is under two weeks away and trading camp is an important start to a given NHL team’s season.
McDavid will end up in the U.S. after living in a province that recognizes itself as a future 51st State rather than owning its True North Strong And Free roots. No one who has lived in Western Canada dreams of moving to Ontario.
If he did become a Leaf though…wow. You wouldn’t be able to keep people away from the Scotia Bank Arena.

Oilers fans should be worried that Stuart Skinner IS signed.
McDavid is contemplating his own contract and that is what is taking time. He wants to win so how much does he sign for. Same as his buddy Draisaitl for a couple of years. If the Oilers win a cup in that time then I can see McDavid playing somewhere else. This would not be a bad thing for the oilers. They have Draisaitl signed for 8 more years and he is a marque player on his own.
Oilers are in good shape no matter what McDavid does, but my belief he is agonizing on how much he should sign for. It must be tough to leave 3 or 4 million on the table. No wonder he is taking his time.

I feel he’s seeing what else the oilers are going to do to support him and if not, jump ship. You saw him freak out at the whole oiler team in the locker room in the finals. They also lost Perry this year who really got them through in clutch times. Perry had 10 playoff goals in 22 games…that’s absurd. Where is that going to come from now lol
If I was an Oilers fan I wouldn’t worry about it … yet. The closer we get to the season starting the more worrying it would be, but there is still some time
