Hey DK, personally, I've been tired for months about the negativity regarding the Penguins. This is especially true when it comes to "outsiders" that regurgitate what "their experts" say. I've been told you can't possibly be biased or have correct insight because "you're a local guy…"
Anyway, J1Q, what's a realistic outlook for Geno this year? Do you see a prospect that you feel has the ability to read Geno and be an asset on the 2nd line? 🤘🤘
Im a mix of excited and cautiously optimistic about this coming season. Im hopeful, but I can also see it all falling apart and being yet another wasted year. The goaltending has me uneasy.
I wouldn’t say they want Sid to play in Canada. It’s that hockey fans want Sid to play in the playoffs. Have a chance to win. Competing.
Unfortunately for fans outside of Pittsburgh, including the media, Dubas is not trusted as a guy who can do that while sid plays. Either by choice and design and game plan. Or capacity to succeed.
I predicted the team will be bottom 10 last year. And I’m predicting they will be bottom 10 again this year.
I couldn't agree with your assessment about Sid and the penguins intent to make the playoffs while rebuilding.
I don't think Kris Letang is a good player anymore. He is an average player at best, and on a cup team, he is an outstanding third-pairing defenseman playing 17-18 minutes a night. He has lost multiple steps in his skating ability (which was such an essential part of his game), and he is a significant part of the defense problems. Without his legs and his strong first pass to exit the zone (which seems to have deteriorated as well), Letang is a bit of a liability. Karlsson is currently the best player on the backend, and it's not particularly close. Then it's Letang, followed by a bunch of nobodies. I agree that the defense being horrible, along with a bunch of Accari-type players, is the reason they're a bottom-10 team in the league. Crosby is incredible and Malkin has been good enough and with better talent around him, likely would have been performing better.
Love D k optimism..but from what I know you really can't make playoffs with bad goaltending..and Jarry can't be trusted no way don't care about last month and a half of last season and B T W not a good defense either

Why do Sid's statements always get ignored? Is the Canadian media simply that dishonest, where they won't listen to the literal player because he's not giving them the line they can grab onto?
Many of the so called media are low IQ, uncreative , unintelligible both emotionally and intellectually, and puppets who have never read a book. They rely on drama, effect, and sensationalism rather than consciousness in a given situation. Never to be taken seriously!

This whole Sid narrative is absolutely ridiculous. Connor McDavid is going into the last year of his contract with the Edmonton Oilers has not signed an extension and said any option is on the table for him and yet still we have to talk about Sidney Crosby. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
Canada is so starved for a Cup they feel entitled in thinking Sid belongs back up there. That won't solve the problem, just look what happened with McDavid the past two years. He's the one better off being traded, not Sid.

Good morning DK, I really liked, I think his name was, Bob's J1Q, so thank you Bob, and for you using his J1Q to answer this morning 🌄 I haven't thought much on this subject of what lines Muse will come up with while having our couple young guys on the team. It's got me excited as well. I'm wondering if Muse will keep the top line the same, as they were one of the top 5 on 5 lines in all of hockey, or perhaps plug in one of the young guys? 🤔 With hopefully Malkin having a more consistent linemates this year will he have a bounce back year, I think so especially if Koivunen is on his line because of the kids incredible eye for passing.
On the subject of ALL Canadian reporters. Well, I have thanked you many times for how much you cover within our beloved Pens. From the team itself, to management, owners, the baby Pens, and more. Between Taylor and yourself, I've been following you for about 13 or 14 months and I feel so much more knowledgeable about the whole of the Penguins, thank you once again. Now, if you recall, this is Victor from Langley, BC Canada 🇨🇦 and over here I barely receive any Pens news. Yes, in Canada, especially Toronto, the media loves to think there is the Leafs and then some other teams. So many Canadians can't stand the arrogance of the perception of "Toronto is the center of the world" well TO, you don't even look like a Canadian city anymore. BUT DK, I do not wrap up our TSN (Toronto Sports Network) as ALL Canadian reporters or networks. Like, there are some American reporters and networks I have listened to, dislike, but DO NOT wrap them up to be ALL of the reporters and networks in the USA. Hockey has been considered internationally Canada's sport as baseball is America's, so our media gets excited about our treasured Captain so what. Was that ONE reporter digging Sid's agent and Dubas for something that is not there, yes. Again, he's ONE. Is there only above reproach reporters in the USA 🇺🇸 DK? I'll leave you with this

That reporter that should not be mentioned is Bryan Hayes of TSN no doubt the Tom Brady comparison gave that away which is probably the stupidest take I've ever heard in sports Hayes should've been given leave without pay for a while for speaking that out loud, I live in St Catharines ON, I can't stand when any of the Canadian media up here talk about the penguins. It's all based opinion pieces I promise you none of the media up here watch penguin games or keep up with anything it's all Toronto and Edmonton all the time. I mean they all have in their heads that if McDavid doesn't return to EDM he's a lock for the leafs 😂😂

I am so.. exhausted and dead tired of reports that say 'breaking/shocking/surprising trade rumour' and then tell me it's more than just a non-zero chance Sid gets moved. Especially (!) when the quotes they are using are Sid going through the media motions and his agent stirring the pot. Nothing indicating he wants out. Nothing. Sid hates it when he gets questions about it, though never near as much as how much he HATES losing. Does he want more help in the here and now while he is still insanely good? Yeah you bet. His agent barely said anything new; might be nudging Dubas to give Sid some help while he rebuilds. Like I don't know, some left handed defenceman that is better than Pickering, Wotherspoon and Shea. Podcasts that push this for the clicks I unsubscribe from, I've had it with that utter B.S. (not to worry, not this podcast)
It's possible Crosby may want to play somewhere else one day, just like it was possible I was going to hit the PowerBall jackpot this weekend, though I'm not sure which one has lower odds.
I think I've commented about it before, but as a Canadian Penguins fan, its definitely frustrating chatting with family/friends/coworkers and constantly hearing "so did ya hear Crosby is getting traded?" I definitely prefer my news from people who have actually watched a Penguins game in their life.

I’ve been a die hard fan since the early 90s. I love the Penguins.
But I’m realistic.
While the Canadian media will always prop up their teams, (and should have more. Some of these States don’t know what hockey is)
they aren’t far off the mark here.
Sid deserves a chance to win a cup again before he retires. It’s probably not with Montreal. But he has earned the right to go wherever he wants to get the cup.
It’s not going to be with the Penguins.

@dk If any of the bigger names like Kaprizov or McTavish end up getting moved, does acquiring either of them fit in with the current rebuild plan? Also, if you could bring Mike Matheson back, does that give you the boost you want on Defense? Thanks!
I share your optimism for the coming season. I don't believe that the Pens will have as bad of a defense as they did last year. Why? The Pens defense wasn't bad because it was a collection of trash players strictly playing Sully's system. It was bad because it was very inconsistent, and often looked like these veteran NHL players were completely lost on the ice and had no idea where they were supposed to be, nor what they were supposed to be doing. How many times, per game, did we see three, sometimes four, players trapped below the goal line?
Am I worried about the left side of the defense? A little. Honestly, though, if you have three offensive defensemen on the right side, I'll feel better with three "stay at home" defensive defensemen on the left. Considering how many goals were scored against the Pens on the rush, breakaways, or odd man breaks, there is significant possibility for improvement simply by playing a fundamentally sound defense.
