Send him to the Marlies to play 24 minutes a night to challenge for the Calder cup instead of 8-10 with the leafs
Much ado about nothing…wait untill camp starts, and see how it goes. Leafs have several spare parts that are not going to make the team, even McMann who was a real surprise in the regular season, then dissapeared in the playoffs, you just cant give these guys wiggle room, i am not sure McMann is a guy you need, 28 years old, first NHL season, is this the classic "flash in the pan?"…….right now Jarnkrock and Kampf are on the outside looking in, and Robertson also. Leaf need to move these guys, even if the return is minimal, management knows what they are, and should be walking the corridors with a broom and a dust pan. I do not honestly think Cowan is any worse the the guys i mentioned, and i think his effort will be greater. Traing camp and the pre-season will hopefully sort this out, unless Tre' is able to sort it out before camp.
He will get a cup of coffee to start the year but is ultimately sent down. Not a knock on him at all but this isn't his year unless he sticks with either J.T or Matthews and has instant chemistry ⚗️
He would need to push Robertson out on the 3rd line RW.
1st, he needs to gain 10 lbs ,, so he can weigh as much as Robertson does ..

Cowan will play 50 games for Marlies..
..and once multiple injuries occurs, will play 10+ game for the Leafs..

Cowan's biggest flaw is that he's a playmaker instead of a goal scorer. He needs to be able to score goals to make this team!
Let him play on the top line and see where it goes
Got to think of the chemistry he could have with other players could be a lights out line

He's going to AHL.. I hate that this is a constant story. Let him develop and grow naturally. Prove that you're too good for the AHL first.
That's every rookies mindset. Cowan can't be sent to the wolves, Panthers, Lightning are hard nosed no mercy teams. Any team would be very worried if a rookie in camp says, l really aren't looking to make the team.

Cowan needs to learn his game in the minors for a full season and let him grow into a role, before burning him out trying to force a square peg in a round hole..
I think for the Leafs to be close to as good as they were last year they Have to have Easton Cowan succeed early in the NHL. Don't know if that is what they will try.
