I don’t think they keep Gudas as he was scratched the last few games. Also Panik was playing pretty well once he got over his injury. I’d rather lose Todd as he’s he’s too much like Bruce. The man can’t adapt and his solution always seems to be to shorten the bench.

I had been ride or die with Ovi going for the record… but after this mess, and with the cap going down… I'm thinking it might be time to start laying the foundation for a "second generation" rock the red Caps built around Kuzy, Eller, Vrana, and Samsonov.

Shannon they still have Copley in the minors who will likely be the backup as there is no way they will resign Holtby Samsonov has proven he is more than ready to take over as a starter and Holtby will want 9-10 million dollars on the open market and Caps will not give him that

I would strongly argue Vrana is one of their worst contracts. Instead of giving him 6 ish million on a longer term they went with a bridge contract and now Vrana is going to cost them a LOT more in the long term
If Holtby leaves I'd guess that they call up Copley to be the backup
After Watching McMichael this year in London, I do believe the Capitals would at least give him a good chance at the NHL considering he may very well have nothing left to learn in the OHL and he can't go to the AHL so we'll see but I can't wait to see that kid in the Red, White, and Blue. Alexeyev too. I loved both of those draft picks and im so happy that the capitals have the such underrated scouting staff and GM that they have in order to stay a successful franchise
When Holtby walks at the end of this year, whenever that is, the Caps will have a TON of flexibility cap wise. They could potentially sign 2 top 6 forwards or they may choose to add a 1D with that money. They will have around $8M available (the last time I checked was around Nov so this may be a bit off) to address needs throughout their lineup. So I'm actually excited to see what GMBM can do without that yoke around his neck like it was this year

Panik really started to turn it on at the end of the season and I wouldn’t be surprised if he would have had a big impact in the playoffs at some point. This team is getting real old and they need to start bringing in younger players, even if that mean saying goodbye to some older favorites soon.
Washington looks built to transition relatively cleanly. Next year will be the big one with Vrana and Ovi signing in the same year. It'd be a real shame if they can't make a run at the Cup this year because next year they may have to trade for/sign guys who expire at the end of the year next year and that doesn't sound like quality depth to me. I'd have been real nice if one or two of our forwards from the minors could have turned into something, but maybe they will with more time idk. All I know is 2016-17 felt awful and everything worked out better than anyone could have imagined

That Capitals team was really scary, I cant imagine how much better it can get than this, specially with Eller performing the way he was this year. With that being said Vrana seems legit but hopefully he can maintain that goal scoring

What has happened to Holtby? He went from being a stellar goaltender in the 2018 playoffs and fell off of a cliff this year (up to the hiatus).
Fehervary is a legitimate stud and I know most of our fanbase would rather him in the NHL than Jensen or even Kempny at this point
