I am definitely worried about Cossa. He has only 1 year left in the minors so if doesn't figure it out this year he is most likely going to be a bust. Augustine is our goalie of the future.
Anyone still wondering why Yzerman went after a bunch of goalies? They're development is notoriously non-linear and unpredictable, and the cornerstone of any good team. Having a robust goalie pipeline fosters competition and offsets likely delays in developement.
legorocks99 was DEAD WRONG about Jesper Wallstedt. legorocks99 had Wallstedt as the next superstar goalie. lol. Wallstedt has been a COMPLETE BUST but legorocks99 remains silent about Wallstedt flaming out. Instead, legorocks99 relentlessly bashes Cossa. It is embarrassing to watch him go after Cossa time and time again, while he can't admit how incredibly WRONG he was about Wallstedt.
Look at the timeline of goalies Cossa's size 6' 6" or raller. Bishop, Stolarz, Markstrom, Oettinger.
Stolarz played 34 games at 30 yeats old last year. Most hes ever played.
Bishop was 27 before he started for 63 games in 2013-2014.
Marskstrom was 27 when he started 60 games in 2017-2018.
Oettinger is the only guy i can see at first glance that contributed significant starts in the NHL when he was 23, when he played in 48 games. That would be next year for cossa and a realistically best case scenario based on historical data.
Bigger goalies are just different and you can't treat their timeline the same as a goalie thats 6' 2". I mean.. i guess you CAN if you want to disappoint yourself with delusions instead of being knowledgeable and realistic.
Cossa turns 27 in 2030. If he starts in 40+ games in the NHL any year prior to that.. He's ahead of the other goalies his size not named Jake Oettinger. People dont like that timeline, including myself, but it is what it is.
no.
Cossa looked like he's always looked, to me. He's big and takes up space but we even saw shots go right through him. He reminds me of Kevin St. Pierre that we had on Bakersfield years ago. He's good enough to do great at the ECHL level but bring him up a couple of levels and he gets taken apart.
Postoffice is someone they should be investing in while Augustine gets ready.
We need to accept that Seabass is a catch and release.
I never had faith in Cossa after watching that prospect game when he gave up like 7goals in 2 periods. It always comes back to me every time I see him play. I think Augustine and Postva are better than him.
Cossa has never had good starts with Detroit. All the way back to his first training camp. He seems to require some time to heat up, but when he does, he’s a real good goalie. The more he plays this year, the better he will do. He’s just one of those guys who has to ramp up.
The same people lashing out at Cossa now would have been doing the same to Osgood circa '94. Osgood ended his carrer with 3 Stanley Cups and 2 Jennings trophies. If Cossa is even HALF as good as Osgood, that's still an amazing career.
With all the goalies signed and picked some would have thought we'd find a good one by now. Nope. Don't expect better than average goaltending for the next few years.
Not with Augatine and Postova in the pipeline. Plus 2 others who's names start with G. Both of them look really good too. Most importantly, Cossa was not projected to be ready until he was 23 -24 yo. Maybe 25. He was considerred a project with alot of upside. He got minimal coaching in the Q. He will be a slightly late bloomer if he pulls it off. He is really young still. People don't get that.
I dont worry about Cossa because I just know hes a wings goalie prospect. Wont be ready until 26 years old.
