  1. For almost 2 periods Montreal was the better team, but managed to lose anyway. A 'B' grade effort from the Leafs in terms of execution, physicality & puck management. They are capable of much better, so take the 2 points & move on.

  2. Way to start the season on a winning note you get the two points against Montreal. There’s stuff to work on as Craig Barve just said, but it wins the win work on the stuff and practising get better and get ready for Detroit Saturday.

  3. Overall not a great effort. Numerous lazy giveaways in the neutral zone led to both MTL goals. They have to be a lot better than this game tonight.

  4. I know this is just the first game of a long season but apart from Stolarz, the Leafs looked terrible all around. Didn't see any DNA they keep talking about and it was the usual lacklustre perimeter play with long bouts of getting hemmed in. By the Habs no less. It would not surprise me if the Leafs didn't make the playoffs this season.

  5. Shortening pre-season games will cause many teams to have very sloppy starts of the season.
I do not understand the league trying to squeeze a liittle more revenue out of games over the quality of the game and safety of the players.
Great to see Rielly play with more effort!
Roy and Joshua are adds that are great improvements.
Robertson is not helping his chances of playing.

  6. The game play on both sides looked like they were out for a beer and playing a pond hockey game. Pace was way too slow. Both teams need to step it up a gear.. They get paid way too much for that. Matthews way too slow and not engaged. The Captain needs to have a certain energy to their game in order to get the boys going. I never see that. It's not like Montreal looked better. Bad game to watch for an opener .
