  1. N.Y Islanders greatest dynasty in the history of professional sports 4 consecutive stanley cup championships 5 consecutive stanley cup finals appearances 19 consecutive playoff series wins. A unbelievable accomplishment and true role models .We should all strive to reach the level of excellence in our respective profession as the N.Y Islanders.

  2. You never know with goalies. Impressive win considering the offensive juggernaut that Edmonton is.

  3. I know it's early, but they should have shipped Lee off last year when he had more value, even during this past offseason.

  4. Why can't they play with this much intensity every game. With that said with the amount of chances that the Islanders were able to create, they need to be able to finish those golden chances. In any case this was an awesome first win against an elite team. I was a bit disappointed that so few hats were thrown on the ice for Horvat, and honestly the Isles have one of the worst goal celebration rituals in the league. Drop the 3 Rick Flair wooos and do the YES followed by a killer song that the fans adopt . Cause after the 3 Wooos the yes sounds lifeless, like senior citizens engaging in love making. Apologies if my comment offended anyone, and to those who are forever Sound Tigers

  5. one game. this team isn't capable of going on a prolonged run. better question is why did isles with rittich in net play so well against oil? scored pp g and sh g yet gave up a pp g too. isles with even strength, pp, sh, and en g's.

  6. I never understand the hero and the goat of the game.. more specifically the goat, it means The greatest of all time.

  7. Nice to get the first W. Should have had a couple more goals in the first period, but at the end of the day 2 pts is 2pts! Nice to have a goalie make some saves too. David Rittich 31 outta 33 was HUGE! Wonder if we go back to him on Saturday? 1-3 on the season. Let's get back to .500 gents! Go Islanders!!!

  8. Evan Bouchard was so bad in that game, his play was the main reason we won. Also that shot by Bo Horvat on the shorthanded goal was a freakin snipe!

  9. So today the team shouldn’t all be traded and Roy isn’t such a bad coach. Rittich provided consistent goaltending. Not spectacular but consistent. Sorokin is shaky and that affects the whole team.

  10. As per usual, you are spot on with everything. It was a mix of joy of getting opportunities, even if they were mostly on the back of Oiler's sloppy defence and the frustration of Palmieri, Barzal and maybe even Lee missing opportunities that should have been goals in 1st period, and mid 2nd, it felt like they didn't believe it anymore, and picked up another penalty being 2-1 down. And contrary to how it felt the game was going, we fought back via SHG, PPG, EN from Horvat, who really needed this, I feel. We needed this. I had just posted "We just have to ride it out till we gain confidence" and a few minutes later we scored. Had hoped 3rd period we would come out with renewed confidence, but again they looked tired and struggling – until we got a series of PPs, where some were just us skating into traffic. And on the first few plays we were ruthless in PP. Great that the tables were turned on having margins, and capitalising on them.

And you are right, we need to build on this, still fighting with passion and good decisionmaking. The next few games should be manageable, if we are using this to launch our season. If this was a one off, we may question their resilience and chemistry. I don't mean if we lose, but if we lose due to lack of effort.

  11. Good 🌄, Gil. How are you? The Islanders won and looked good in the process. I think they got the message when Patrick Roy benched Maxim Tsyplakov. Hero, Bo Horvat for his 🎩trick. 🐐, Anders Lee for having an ugly start. HAPPY 🎂, KEN MORROW. He won a 🥇 for Team 🇺🇸, and the Stanley 🏆, and won 4 more Stanley 🏆 to go with it. He scored the GW goal in OT over the Oilers. Hear from you later, Gil. Time to ⌚ Game 3 of the 80 Finals. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS'.

  12. Good morning team! Gil, it's the sweet sound of victory. Winning is always fun. It's good for moral and team confidence. So nice not going 0-4. Did you see the look on Schaefer's face after the team won? Let's grade it. The PK gave up a PP goal, but they also put up a SH goal. Our special teams even scored a PP goal. Grade, Plus 1. Big props to Dobson finding Horvat for the EN goal, and a hat trick. This was an excellent performance against a very strong team. The win feels good, and it's my hope, fingers crossed, we can build on the momentum. Got to give props to Rittich too. Gil, you are right, he played the angles very well, and kept the team in the game until we were able to get the elusive go ahead goal. Time to put this one in the rearview mirror, and work on getting the next one in Ottawa. Everyone, have a great day and wonderful weekend! Enjoy the game tomorrow. See you all again Monday. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  13. Holmstrom and heinemen need to switch spots, I like him but he’s not a top 6 forward stylistically he fits better on the 3rd or 4th line, I think holmstrom should be with horvat or barzal he’s definitely a capable top 6. Hope Roy doesn’t ruin him and figures out the right combinations.

  14. I really like this team. They play very fast and seem to be more in attack mode this year. They need to finish though!!!! We may not be a playoff team but we are really close. With what we have in the system coming up I think this team is really close to being good. I personally think we will make the playoffs this year as long as Bo and Barzy play up to their capabilities. I like this team way better than the previous few years.

  15. Matt Schaefer is the real deal, folks. 4-game point streak in his first four NHL games as a just-turned-18-year-old kid. His hockey IQ is terrific — his head is constantly swiveling, looking, analyzing. Foundational draft pick.

  16. Gm Gil. Very fun game and not just because we won, the 1st game was the same. But man do we miss net on A LOT of shots. Even Ray Ferraro was low key making fun. Still fun tho. Total class act by Drouin to give Bo hat trick. Glad for Bo. Duclair looked gd. Barzy looks gd – lol he loves that McDavid limelight. Shabanov was quietly doing some nice setups. I’d like to see him step up next game as he has serious skill but needs confidence to unleash it. Mayfield despite his play lately did clear an important puck out at the end so I give him a pat on back. Romi got beat n looked sloppy early but then kept guys to outside & did gave a nice hit. Holmstrom made a real nice move in font of net but didn’t score. Schaefer setting NHL records on his worst game -if you can even call it that.
Takeaways from last night. We need to improve shot accuracy for sure. It’s been noticeable since last year. Passing is sloppy. Not tape to tape. I watched several go behind intended player or completely off course. Those two things alone will improve odds. There were other issues but these are simple fixes.

  17. Gil, I know it has no "real" impact on the game but the Oilers DID take the LIRR to the game … They dared test Isles juju … LOL … 😉

  18. This organization never learns their lesson. They're doing the same detrimental thing to Tsyplakov that they did to Wahlstrom and Bellows. They love to ruin careers. Why bring back Tsyplakov and bury him on the fourth line when his size and ability to shoot the puck on net is worthy of top six showing? Last season, he had a beautiful power move down the boards with a cross over enabling him to get behind the D man, and he went backhand to forehand to finish with a shot and goal scored. Apparently, Roy caught the lou bug. The lou bug entails not allowing players to focus on what they can do. Rather, it's to bury them and then bench them unless they're a member of the country club. Tsyplakov is the antithesis to josh bailey who refused to shoot the puck when he had a shooting lane. As an aside, was last night's victory a strong performance by our NY Islanders? Or did the Oilers just have a bad showing? We know Bouchard forgot how to play defense last night. I was listening to the radio broadcast for a while last night and it was Alan Feuring with Butch Goring but after a while Butch was nowhere to be found on the broadcast. Anybody know if something happened to #91?

  19. Who cares tank the season man we need another top 5 picks Schaefer's the future and get rid of the old guys to get more youngsters

  20. Sometimes it takes a few games into October especially with a revamped d. Playing Rittich was key since Ilya looked disconnected. On the old days anaverage goalie with a big personality. like a Chico Resch or Glen Healy can key the team. The enthusiasm to win is not automatic but Roy stays positive. Especially playing the SC finalists EDM.

  21. Gil, it’s still early, but it was a sloppy game overall from both sides. It could have easily ended with a blowout in favor of the Isles. But what disappoints me most was that the ESPN+ broadcast mentioned the 5 cups the Oilers have won, and didn’t even mention the 4 consecutive cups by the Isles dynasty, I hope I just skipped on hearing that from their part maybe?

  22. Hi Gil! The one thing I will say is this—with the additions we are definitely faster. I wasn’t happy with 3 Oilers all over Barzie and only one our players came over and gingerly joined the Frey——it was an emotional confidence win. Shaef is just something else. The kid can flat out play baby! As much as I’d like to tank and have a chance at McKenna, ya gotta give this season a try. Let’s see what happens Gil. They didn’t look like an 0-3 team last night. Take care my Isles friend. I like Bo—a lot—-Bo knows—LGI—We received steady goaltending yesterday—-Sorro must get connected again.

  23. We play better defensively in front of back up. Sorokin shouldn’t be playing more than 2 games in a row. Romi still with turnovers
