Difference from earlier in the year: the goalies are making the saves on low danger shots so the sharks defense is trusting the goalies to make the low danger saves, and cleaning up rebounds and sealing off higher danger chances rather than trying to play goaltender.

I perhaps owe Warsofsky an apology. I thought this team looked ill prepared earlier in the season. And they did look ill prepared. But they don’t look that way now. I guess he needed a couple more weeks to get it all aligned… (and perhaps the road trip to convince him to do less line matching and more just playing his guys in a normal rhythm).

If I ever suggested I was ready to bail on Askarov, that’s not how I meant to sound. Even early on I was saying I still think he’s the guy for the future. I must admit that I am a little stunned how quickly we went from that LA game to his subsequent starts.

In either case, after that LA game I had them maybe going 1-4-1 over this stretch and sitting around 3-10-4 – 10 down with Calgary based on the opponents and the body of work to that point (you see what Colorado did to Edmonton tonight?). They instead went 5-0-1 and recorded 11 of 12 possible points. It’s a statement for sure.

  2. What’s really impressive is the sharks did this without Eklund and Misa hasn’t fully developed yet! Very excited for the future!! 🦈

  3. Games like tonight in and of themselves are not a recipe for success. But learning to win games like tonight — on the second half of a back to back where both games were against good squads, and overcoming the refs too is a recipe for long term success. I don’t want to see them try to win giving up 40 shots a night every night. I do like seeing them show that they CAN win a game like this and come away with 2 points on what could be described a “scheduled loss”. Good teams find ways to win when the chips are stacked against them, and learning to do that is a recipe for long term success. You can’t go out and scrap this kind of win out every night, but you have to be able to do it sometimes. 4-5 games like tonight over the course of a season can easily be the difference between 105 points and home ice for a round or two and 95 points and playing in the wild card part of the bracket or not getting in.

  4. I don't care if it breaks the code. I want Reeves head hunting guys that go after Smitty and Mac with intent to injure

  5. Fun fact: The Sharks have the second-best record in the league over the last 10 games at 7-2-1. Is it too much to hope for a playoff push? I don't expect them to make it, but just to make the wild card teams sweat a bit.

  6. Im proud to say although internally i panicked about asky. I never lost my optimism about the guy and it paid off.

  7. I mean usually I am concerned about the officiating because we have to kill a penalty but this was concerning for the players safety. I mean that last missed board on smith could’ve been really dangerous. Glad he’s okay.

  8. We had no business winning this game. Makes up for some of the other losses where we should have won

  9. I'm so over watching FL play dirty hockey and get away with it. That the refs know this is going to happen and refuse to simply call the rulebook is maddening. . .

  10. Impressive outing for Askarov, he was constantly under siege all game. What isnt really talked about is the depth on this team, Warsofsky can keep rolling out NHLers with guys like Eklund/Misa injured and Mukhamadullin sitting. Last years team isn't winning the last two games and being able to lineup regular NHLers is pushing this team through these recent wins.

Lastly, I dont like banging on acquisitions of players until they actually play and show what they bring. Ryan Reaves, the stat dork's worst nightmare; since his fight with Rempe it seems like the kids have begun to walk a little taller and carry more swagger. Nobody knows what is going on in that locker room but safe to assume Reaves is in the mix. He was the right player to fit for this young core and Grier nailed this acquisition.
