Bc of luck?? BS comment..
Montreals drafting has been fantastic
"Luck" vs the Leafs
Lane Hutson was passed over twice by nearly every team. He was picked 62 overall. That's not luck, that's good scouting. The Leafs could have had him, they instead picked Fraser Minten at #38, who's now with the Bruins.
What's luck is landing the #1 overall pick when generational talent Auston Matthews hits the draft. The Canadiens have not had this luck, and Slafkovsky has not bloomed yet, but that's fine, they need to keep working hard on developing him.
What a stupid take.
Yeah dude Montreal got lucky & the Leafs are just masterclass what goofs
Are you kidding me?!!! Did you say luck?????
Did you also say that Lane Hudson who was picked in the second round, 62nd overall " fell into their lap"?!!!!! What r u smoking.
It wasn't luck. It was Patience and pure managerial genius
Luck 😂😂😂
Zuk had more points last year than Bergeron ever had. Defensively Bergeron is obviously better and faceoffs as well.
Not great analysis here. When you draft someone like Hutson that you believe in, it is not luck. When you draft Demidov by strategizing so that he doesn't show interest in other teams, it is not luck. When you build a culture that makes your entire core decide to take less money to stay with Montreal, it is not luck!
With all due respect, Marek, calling the Montreal Canadiens’ rebuild “luck” completely misses the point. Sure, drafting always involves some uncertainty, but when your pro and amateur scouting departments consistently make smart, informed decisions, success follows. For years under Trevor Timmins, the Habs struggled at the draft table. That ended the moment Geoff Molson installed a modern, professional front office and the tandem of Hughes and Gorton. This organization has built a culture where players buy into something bigger than themselves — and that’s a rare, refreshing sight in today’s NHL.
This guy is such a homer. Montreal is no where near ready to contend for anything. But it shows how upset and scared he is for whats coming in 5yrs or so
People didn't "fall into their lap" or luck. It's great scouting with Babarov and Lapointe, FINALLY a real player development program. A coach who can relate to all his players like Marty and a management team that has a plan and stuck to it.
Calling it luck is short sighted.
Dobson fell into their lap? What? They built a winning culture. People want to be a part of it. That isn't luck. Dobson had other options. He chose to go to Montreal.
Hutson wasn't luck. They drafted him. Any other team could have had him…had two shots at him. And didn't. They did. That isn't luck.
The Leafs signed those contracts that were way above market value at the time. Flat cap or not, they were way higher than anyone else was getting. Bad mgmt. Not bad luck.
Couldn’t disagree more on the luck. The took slaf over the consensus fav wright. The took Hudson when no one wanted him for the size. Leafs failing at the right year to get Matthew’s was more luck than anything habs did. Horrible analysis
Marek showing off his stupidity again.. blaming covid for the leafs shortcomings is such a tired and lazy excuse.. their core failed because Dubas got bent over by the agents when the players were RFAs.. the Habs are not letting that happen to them and luck has nothing to do with it
Love the show guys, and I agree with your perspective. Fuck the Leafs.
Luck my ass
Toronto never drafted or traded for a top D-man – they still do not have one!
If luck is the first reason, you either dont know what youre talking about or youre talking about sonething you know nothing about
What are they doing well? Luck! Delusional…
No Marek, the difference between the Leafs and the Habs is that the Leafs overpaid for their guys and everybody knew it at the time and the Habs made good deals cause they had a strong mind in negotiations who made the players understand what their plan was. It has nothing to do with Covid or cause the cap is high now. You really think Dubas would have paid Hutson 8.5? Most of the Habs offered salaries that would have been the average 3 years ago.
Speaking of which, you really dare calling getting Hutson luck given the shear lack of talent the Habs has had for decades. When was the last time they got one player of this magnitude? Meanwhile, Leafs have had Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Sundin, etc…They drafted the players they wanted, the road they take, they have chosen themselves the moment Bergevin was fired. They traded Lekohnen and from there were all in on rebuilding and convinced Molson of it. And they were off and running and never changed the plan like smart minds would do. And they are continuing on it while adding good pieces like Dobson along the way.
It's not brain surgeries what they did. They decided to rebuild and they did. That's it. And decided to instill good work eithic and people taking less money for the good of team. Hell, I'm not even saying it's gonna work. Maybe they'll end up being the Jets, a solid team with midling playoff performances, who knows. But to say it was luck when every moves this current regime made they 100% decided to make of their own free will. This was always what they wanted to do. And they have made mistakes too. Like trading picks for Dach and Newhook were mistakes.
I got as far as "part of it is luck" and I am done bye bye
when you draft a superstar defenseman 62th overall, thats not luck, thats great scouting. Luck is Demidov dropping to 5th for the Habs to scoop him up.
Well hold on…. Toronto’s management signed deals that looked questionable from the beginning and hoped they would be good…
Montreal signed contracts that look good right now and can look even better later, There’s a big difference there…
If for some reason the cap stops moving forward and it’s a flat cap again Montreal is more than fine 🤣🤣..
Toronto NEEDED the cap to rise, The Habs don’t, So you can’t really compare that.
Also the ONLY thing I would say was lucky about this rebuild was getting Demidov… everything else they have done was on them, The management and scouting department created their own luck and didn’t just run into luck.
Luck? They finish last and get the first pick in THE year where there is no Celebrini, Bedard or Gavin M.
They manage to get Hutson and Slaf out of that draft. I call this being given a lemon and making lemonade.
You got to stop drinking man luck. Had nothing to do with it. Great scouting And a great approach
Seriously guys finds someone else other than this. Moron
LOL blaming teh cap for Torontos miseries is full of shit. All teams faced the cap yet teams do go on to win the cup. The reason why Toronto was limited in their |cap| is how management handled each case. Yes it sucks yo be a Maple Leaf but blame the management. Also saying Montreal is lucky? No Montreal knew when to pick and when to trade. If 31 other teams disregarded Lane Hudson is not luck you moron.
Calling Suzuki teemu Bergeron is fuckin hilarious
Jeff is 1000% correct. Gorton and Hughes have put forth an excellent strategy and long term plan. However, luck is absolutely a key element and always will be. I'd say an intangible is the chemistry and strong culture taking root in that dressing, which has me believing that they will succeed and once again hoist Lord Stanley's.
Montreal has a lot of good players left over from that team got to Cup Finals. Caufield, Suzuki, Guhle, Dobes, etc…
"Part of it is luck…" 🤣🤣🤣 Lane Hutson fell into their lap….at pick 62 in the 2nd round lol….Luck was mentioned 9 times in a span of 5 minutes. you guys are hilarious
I've always thought that the Leaf's signing of Tavares was their breaking point. Nothing against Tavares, but at the time, the Leafs needed good defense (hmm weird they still do) so imagine taking that 11M and split it into two top 4D instead of Tavares, we could have a different conversation about the Leafs. I believe Montreal is doing it right by not just loading on forward top end. Montreal has great young forwards, defense and goalies, the future is looking great!
Lol. Maybe, just maybe, Dubas handled the situation very poorly? Yes a bit of luck, but come on man. Kent Hugues is a MUCH better negotiator, or simply better manager than Dubas. He ruined the windows for the Leafs.
Marek is a clown 💀😭🤣
