    The problem with Vegas’ expansion draft is that they had access to good players that other teams took time to develop. Teams lost good young players and couldn’t do anything about it. The 90s expansion forced Ottawa and other expansion teams to work hard to develop a good roster without fleecing other teams.

    Okay. I love Wild Bill. But the trade the Jackets made with Vegas wasn't really about him. We loved him and his game when he was here. The first round pick (became Kristian Vesalainen) was to get David Clarkson off the books. The other part of the trade was taking Karlsson instead of Josh Anderson or Korpisalo. Korpi was seen as the future in net. Budding power forward Josh Anderson had just potted 17 goals in his first full season. They were kind of over a barrel with this one.

    I know people say that Caps fans weren’t happy losing Schmidt, but would you rather we’d lose Grubauer? There’s a strong argument to be made that we don’t win the cup without the late-season heroics of Grubauer.

    Wild Bill Karlsson is a worthy no. one on this list.
    Playing on both PP and PK. Very much a team player. Humble and handsome.
    He peronifies the expansion pretty well.

    To your comments on the expansion draft, exactly. The comments after the draft was that they were set up to do well in the coming years, but they’d finish close to last in the pacific.
