That was a game against a legit cup contender (favorite right now!?) with 1 regulation lost so far this season. The Habs still have some holes to fill and experience to gain to contend against a team like this.
who is beating the avalanche this season? not many teams can seems?
What a smack down, another low 80's save percentage night by a goalie, D was complete garbage, matheson and carrier especially, 1st line out to luch
They were psyched out seeing those Nordiques uniforms!
At least they got to witness what it takes to be a top team.. seeing the avs play a full 60 mins might be an inspiration..
I don’t want this season to be baked in. We play them one more time in our barn—do what you couldn’t! Slay the KING!🤛😁🤚GO HABS GOOO!🟥🍁🟥 DEMIDOV POWER!
Arber -3.55, yikes !! Hopefully we can get something half decent for him at trade deadline.
Guys Colorado is gonna win the next 3 cups. We might have a chance after that
Defence and coverage were crap. Dobes got hung out to dry.
Habs need a veteran D man for the second pairing.. can’t go 2-3 more months with what we have
Would have been nice to play first on the road. Might have been a better result. LETS GO HABS from Saskatchewan.
I am underwhelmed by Carrier this year. I see Carrier all over the place and some spots uncontested by the canadiens.
We talk and talk about Xhekaj and Struble, but I see that Carrier has some issues and it is starting to show and it's not because he is playing with the newer players of Xhekaj. Is it because he cannot stop a grown man and players just push through him?
He seems lost and does not have an interdiction aura (you get within that aura and I'll slap the puckhurt you bad).
I am not a coach, it's just a feeling.
I'm tired of finding "silver linings" in these blowouts. But if I were looking for excuses, I'd blame the lower oxygen levels at the high elevation. Teams that train in Denver have an adaptation advantage. I recall Hashim Khan, the great squash player of the 50's, remarking on his lack of energy the first time he played in Denver.
2 games in less than 24 hours. The last game against the best team in the league. Relax guys.
When/If the Avs lose, it's in overtime, period. I expected a Blowout, and that's what happened. 4 pts out of 6. More than I expected
that play with Slafzilla to Demidor was wow… really promising
i think it's good reality check for the fanbase, we gotta realize we are not in that tier, so no reason to overpay for the Ryan OReilly or Crosby type acquisition
also let them see between Stars and Avs, this is what Stanley Cup contenders are at… Avs were just so smooth, a few good plays by Habs here and there, but Mckinnon … too much, we dont have that shadow player to defend stars at this level
Silver lining is that Avalanche stoped playing after 7 goals😂😂
We need a goalie like the aves kr even Jonathan Quick from rangers. We need good goaltending. Yes we made defensive mistakes but if we had an a plus goalie OMG we would be unstoppable!!!!
Ref have no idea what goalie interference is
5:50 not to be a stat-watcher, but mackinnon and slaf have some similar early career stats.
You clowns are hilarious! What homers you are! The Habs are too small to compete with the best teams in the league.
I'm not at all worrried about this! No way we could expect to make it 3-0 on the road trip, especially with the Avs losing last night. They're the class of the entire NHL. BUT seeing Demi score, Slaf & Suzi & Caufield keep rolling, it's all good!
I must say, though, it kills me every time I see just how PERFECT Leks is. As positive as it all is for our Habs, can we all at least agree that HuGo made a horrible mistake when they shipped Leks out?
Still haven't filled the void of a hard hitting bad ass forward who can throw devastating checks. We also dont seem to have that on defence either.
Face it. This is a regular season team just like the Leafs have been for years and years. The Habs have a lot of exciting players but Florian Xhekaj is no Tom Wilson and Slaf or Demidov is no Kyle Connor., and Dobes is not even Steve Penney or Brian Hayward. Enjoy the regular season success and hope they win a game or two in the first round before bowing out to the Bruins or Ottawa or Florida.
Slafkovsky/Demidov > Suzuki/Caufield
That 2nd goal was utter BS. Landeskog clearly initiates the contact with Anderson making him fall.
celebrini 65points first years then dominate, hopefully Demidov will be the same for next year 😀 holy crap, just saw suzuki kapanen under 40% faceoff
Just a blip against an insanely good team.
(Btw, I'm liking Slaf's assertive play more and more.)
this game once again proves how useless caufield is on the top line. one trick pony.
Colorado not missing Rantanen. Shows how important culture is in hockey. Canadiens have that, just need a bit more talent and avoid making bad trades (Lehkonen)
The Avs are a complete team and should be the prototype for what the Canadiesns should be aiming for. They are fast, big, disciplined and play a brand of hockey that force mistakes and then they have the finishers. Imagine having Necas on the Habs. No one wants to talk about the lack of playmakers after the top 6. Let's go back a few years. Michkov was available and we could have had him; we picked Reinbacher who has proven to be injury prone and I am not sure where he would fit in on the blue line. Hutson, Guhle, Dobson and now Matheson are signed long term. Carrier is solid, Arber and Struble not progressing as trustworthy and Engstrom might not be a long term solution. Then we had an opportunity to get Trevor Zegras who is having a magical year in Philly. Instead we gambled with Newhook who is out long term; Dach will not come back to a shadow of himself. Gallagher bless his heart still has some years to go on his contract along with Anderson. Goaltending still a concern, but very few goalies would have done better against this Avs team. Some positives. Hutson, Slaf, Demigod; but they need to deck some guys in the front of the neck. Dumb challenge for goaltender interference (thats on MSL). They are still a couple of years from contention once Gally, Anderson go and Hage and Zharovsky. Beck and Roy will not make the NHL period. 2029-30, but by then Suzuki, Cole and GHule will be older too and the draft picks will be depleted.
I like the top line with Bolduc and I like Slaf with Demidov… and Kapanen maybe, but would still like to see a trade for a 2C to go with Slaf and Demidov.
Slaf needs to stay with Demidov. He is finally growing not just playing a dull support role. Nick and Cole need to get their shit together and try to play more physically around the boards to minimize the need for big supportive body. Cuz it's concerning that for years they as a duo can't find a linemate other than Slaf to strive. I would try Florian with them or line slaf, suzuki, demidov.
Slaf finally plays like during his junior years. This is his real style!!!
Thank god to have him out of the box in the first line where he was just “carrying a water” for Suzuki and Caufield.
The reason why Slafkovsky performs better is because he got put on the left wing wich is his natural side. MSL was bright make him learn how to play on the right wing with Suzuki and Caufield to make him polyvalent but his natural spot is at left wing.
There have been a lot of goalies who had bad games playing Colorado this year and in years past, it happens.
I don’t get why everybody thinks slavkovsky is good !?!? It was a mistake drafting him number 1 … I would honestly of rathered anybody that was in his draft class in the top 5 even nazar drafted 17th overall … Slav has played 24 games and he has 13 points getting paid all the money he makes is laughable 😂 I really hope the Habs get rid of him he’s at best a third line winger making almost 8 m a season I would of much rathered Cooley I wish Hughes would of drafted his sons friend 10000% the only good first round pick Hughes has made since he’s been in Montreal is Demidov … Slav reinbacher and Mesar all seem like flops to me maybe not reinbacher but he’s always hurt
2 yrs ago the 1st line struggled. They tried Anderson. I believe Suzuki asked MSL to try Slaf and it worked. The 2nd line basically self destructed with injuries. The 3rd line became the 2nd line then Newhook got hurt. Slaf to the rescue. Either way he is playing with talent. Bolduc has worked on the 1st line, is strong on the boards and maybe is more of a sniper. Except for Suzuki & Caufield, the top six is green, are just kids. Reinbacher, Hage, Zharovsky will also need time to develop when they arrive. Flo X looks good, is a bulldozer they need. Struble is hurt so add another rookie, Engstrom. 5 rookies in the line up, 2 sophomores. Slaf is 21 yrs old and he has more experience than the other 7 guys. The rebuild is far from over. Adding a guy like Ryan O'Reilly ain't gonna fix "the team".
Finally, I agree with your Slaf praise. On the first line he looked like a spectator.
He is the alpha on the second line and he is showing it.
Slaf was put on 2nd line to make it at least a little competitive. It actually turned out really nicely. He is free to drive the line and it shows.
So are you saying that we have back to back…back to backs?
