The irony with the goalie market is teams with 1A goalies are not winning anytime soon. Also oilers not trying play catchup second half and gas up while in the finals.. they need to start strong early to help rest
Pens have a better defensive system than the Oilers. Only reason Jarry looks like a better upgrade is because Karlsson and Letang are better than Bouchard and Nurse by far! Watch Skinner go way above .900 because of those guys. Jarry will struggle then what? Whose fault will that be
Skinner wasn’t the problem. The defense in front of him was. You can’t blame every goal on the goaltender.

Grading a trade the day it happens is for the simple minded. I mean seriously. And if Jarry has a 0.925 save percentage in the playoffs and the Oilers win the Cup? Where's your grade then?

Skinner was inconsistent in the playoffs. They put Pickard in net for some big games because skinner can be a choke artist. Jarry although not tested really at all in the playoffs, I stand with the GM and Jarry is happy to come play with the oilers. Momentum has to start swinging in Edmonton and this could be the catalyst.

It’s not a lateral move. Check the stats.
This was a CYA trade by Stan Bowman to look like he did something, anything to try to fix the goaltending. But he probably made a lateral move, took on more cap hit and tied his hands for the trade deadline and offseason when the Oilers should be trying to land an all star calibre goalie for McDavid's remaining two years. He also gave away Kulak, who could have been a tradeable asset for deadline activity if the Oilers are making the playoffs.
Jarry is free from the mental baggage that Skinner had. That's not much to celebrate, but it's something.

So it was true then that Binnington had ZERO interest in playing for the Oilers. They even went sniffing for Lankinen in Vancouver and Saros in Nashville but again both goalies didn’t want to play for Edmonton

It’s a great trade. Kulak and skinner aren’t worth anything. Skinner is not as good as jarry so that’s a free shot at a better goalie. Don’t forget the salary cap. There’s not many goalies as good or better for 5 million.
