The way his dentures would slosh on S and the bird like frailty in his voice. Such quality

I bet he’s on the Epstein list.

  2. Significant-Ice699

The absolute best. Not just in hockey, in all of sports.

  3. Greecelightninn

Try John shorthouse , yeah the nucks suck but his play by plays are awesome and quick

  4. VinPickles

Brendan Burke is very, very good and a worthy heir imo

  5. FruitMustache

That dude was a fan of the sport first and foremost, and it showed. Loved his announcing. I’d watch any and every game I could if Doc was on the mic.

  6. minifigureitout

Greatest single game post season goaltending ever.

I was never a big Emrick fan. I don’t hate listening to him like I do Steve Levy and Leah Hextall. To me he was just average. It’s not that he called fot the Devils. Sam Rosen was the best in the business during that time. He called the Rangers, who I dislike just as much as, if not more than the Devils.

It certainly isn’t Jack “old news talk-show” Michaels.

Emrick genuinely has a big hand in hockey being my favorite sport now. I didn’t grow up watching hockey at all. Nor do I live in an area where’s it’s very popular. But as I began to explore the sport more about 15 yrs ago, his excitement in calling games made me excited. Which lit a fuse to watch/learn more about it. On and on this grew until now, as I said, it is by far my favorite.

I think Randy Hahn deserves a shot to commentate the finals…no bias at all

  11. brechbillc1

Hate that he retired right before my team got good. Would loved to have watched our finals runs with him commentating.

  12. MatteHatter

Having a Doc and Chico duo calling our games for us as long as they did, was and will always be some of the greatest sports memories in my mind.

  13. L4br3cqu3

    He’s a legend.

Because he’s french-speaking, he doesn’t get the same exposure, but Pierre Houde is epic, too.

  14. WaylonLemmyJohnny

I’ll take Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond over him all day. And the Red Wing radio guy, Ken Kal. All three are better than Emrick by a country mile and we’re lucky to have them.

I don’t say that to disparage Emrick either. He was good.

  15. geekernonsleeper

Miss him as well he was great and you could feel his passion and love for the game not sure maybe will be as good as him ever

  16. fri9875

Well you convinced me with this clip right here.

Nah but seriously he was iconic. His commentary is one of my favorite parts of going back and watching 2019 again

  17. I’m sure they could bring in a Pirates broadcaster every so often to give us a 10 minute story about the 1979 World Series while they miss 3 goals being scored.

  18. Anxious_Swimmer_807

Doc used to read PAGES of notes before games on the teams and it showed. Guy was a legend

  19. FlipNoLonger

I was lucky enough to speak on the phone with him for a few minutes. He was just as wholesome and kind on the phone as he seemed on the broadcasts. The goat, no question

  20. Potential_Yam_5196

Will never, ever, EVER forget that save.

  21. shantm79

He was awful, completely hated his voice and over the top enthusiasm. Emrick was an automatic mute.

Ranger fans were spoiled with Sam Rosen.

  22. The_Cozy_Burrito

Gary Thorne, doc and Jim Hughson are my favs

  23. MrMilesDavis

Soooooo many people on Reddit HATED this guy FOR his enthusiasm (which is just stupid)

Now we get a carousel of drones. The Doc games were more fun to watch at least

  24. Weeble317

Most overrated announcer in nhl history

  25. RTR20241

Sometimes I imitate his intro before big games. He may have been over the top, but it still gave me chills. Working on his potential intro for a USA – Canada Gold Medal Game.

They started the their love affair on frozen ponds or in empty arenas….

  26. Shiny_Mew76

    Absolutely.

I do wish they’d have Bob Wischusen on the call for the finals, he’s my favorite of the national broadcasters.
