Eh bien, ça pique

Le meilleur buteur des Canucks sur notre masse salariale ne fait même pas partie de notre équipe

wonder how many points he’d have if he was on the canucks……

  2. MaxHardwood

Are we going to ignore the strength of team?

Matthews was struggling for much of the early half. Hes on fire now.

Just helps to have someone like that to dish to. Nylander too.

I watch a bit of the leafs, they’re my wife’s team. It’s so frustrating watching OEL be a productive member of their team knowing we’re still paying him.

Every time he does something good, I’ll just shake my head in disappointment while my wife laughs 🥲

  4. -PNW_Express-

We need to come to terms with the fact that management wasn’t patient enough to wait for OEL to have a fully healthy season after fracturing his foot at the Worlds in ‘22. This was always the risk with a buyout when there were so many years remaining on his contract. OEL was only 31 at the time of his buyout.

JR and Allvin were playing the short game and needed the 7M in freed up space in 23/24 at the cost of the long term cap health of the franchise.

  5. the_hypothesis

He also won the cup while on our payroll.

  6. Icy-Pomegranate-5644

Emblematic of the short term thinking moves. OEL originally was a short term move, and then buying him out was a double down.

  7. Wolf1771

Buying out OEL was a mistake and I’ll die on that hill.

  8. Even though he was awful for his cap hit, buying him out was such a dumb move. We had to give up a first round pick to get M Petey as an OEL replacement. Now we pay MP 5.5m plus OEL’s buyout 4.77m just for a mediocre LD

  9. BoBoessersson

The problem was not his play, it was his the fact that he was making 8.25 mil per year with us. If he was making the same when playing for Florida or Toronto there would be much higher expectations

  10. capt-sailorjerry

The buyout was a bad idea but that trade in the first place was even worse.

  11. SuperNinTaylor

Crazy that Hronek is only -1 when he is a 1D, and our team is -50

  12. VaticRogue

OEL was never a bad player. He was just paid so much that people had an expectation for him that he was never going to be able to reach.

Between coming back from injuries and being behind Quinn on the depth chart, he was never going to get real PP time or heavy minutes and was going to be forced to be in more of a shut down type role.

He is now in a situation where he can play to his strengths and has a cap hit that doesn’t put all the pressure on him and it shows.

  13. Prudent-Drop164

Trading him was a Tochet move. They butted heads in Aizona

  14. Old_Refrigerator4817

Serves us right. This market is so dumb. The fans and media ran that guy out of town.

  15. housesoftheholy1

Buying him out was so fucking stupid

  16. dattroll123

It’s all Bennings fault. He took that contract without making Arizona retaining money.

  17. Aussie_Alien

OEL was such a disaster for us. From wasting an off season trying to get him, then the actual trade, the buyout and not waiting for him to get healthy. Eventually getting Marcus Pettersson to play that 2LD spot and he’s forgotten how to play.

  18. lovingduckbutter

This organization is a fucking embarrassment.

  19. Drab_Majesty

Tochett got what he wanted, Nucks continue to pay for it. This management is going to bury this franchise for another decade. We need a clean out of FO yesterday

  20. ToothPlayful770

I feel like we never gave him a fair shot, he had the injured foot and had to play all his minutes next to the chaotic Myers. Basically tried to convert him into a shut down dman which made no sense.

  21. changeforgood226

    Let’s be real.

As much shit as we give to the management of this team for being impatient with OEL, us fans were the same.

In retrospect, the entire trade was not bad at all, 8m contract and all. Especially with all the trades we made since trying to replace him.

Garland and OEL for Guenther is not bad at all.

Hopefully food for thought for all the outrage we are suffering through as a fandom currently when talking about shooting every vet to the moon.

  22. SailingHighSeas99

Fils -1 stat is looking damn impressive with the way this season is going. Pretty incredible when compared to the teams overall goal differential and everyone else’s stats.

  23. FreeLook93

OEL looked really good for the Canucks when Hughes wasn’t in the lineup. The problem was that Hughes is obviously the better player and both wanted to be given the same kind of minutes/match-ups/zone starts.

  24. mrmcbluffy

Management are complete idiots. This has been confirmed many times already. Why are they still employed?

  25. Notjoshggggggg

Wdym. 4.7M for a 55 point dman is a great deal. Just ignore the fact that he doesn’t play for us

  26. Drellsy

What hurts more is Dylan Guenther scoring more goals than anyone on our team. We needed that 1st round pick

  27. DavieStBaconStan

    Does it though?

Who is putting the puck in the net on the Canucks to give him those apples?

He’d have 10 points at most in Vamcouver this season.

  28. Rivercitybruin

I have thought of this so often with Toronto boxscores

    In Florida (Tampa?) too

Heavy minutes.. Just more evidence of our miserable culture
