@Ligue nationale de hockey

Id agree with that.
With Lemieux it was more of a « how is a guy that big so fast and so graceful? ». He was a force of nature and an elite scorer/playmaker. Putting him on the ice with Jagr was simply unfair. Adding in Ron Francis and you had kne of the ost talented if not the most talented top line in history.
Gretzky was always « how did he see that pass let alone make it?!? » His playmaking ability was unparalleled. He simply saw the game differently.
SLC olympics 2002, Lemieux made one of the best plays of his career and certainly that tournament , and didn’t even touch the puck.
Lemieux was always a far better player than Gretzky. If he hadn’t had the injury and health issues he would easily have topped all of Gretzky’s records.
Prime Mario Lemieux was the perfect hockey player. Size, speed, strength to go through defenders. The skating, shooting, passing and hockey sense was elite. Mario Lemieux could beat you any way he wanted or needed to. He could put up 6 points on any given night, because he was able to do so many different things better than literally everybody else.
Gretzky was a water beetle and Lemieux was a sturgeon. They both had supernatural hand eye.
I definitely feel like Gretzky « fortunately » happened to find himself in front of the net with the puck. I don’t want to call him a « poacher », but there were a lot of rebounds and « clean up » goals for him.
Mario made plays happen. He definitely had exponentially more end-to-end runs with the puck than 99 did.
Lemieux had more physical talent and ability. Gretzky had otherworldly vision and understanding of how the play was going to unfold well before it did.
Is there a quote from Gretzky saying « yes actually Mario has more talent than me », like magic Johnson said once about Larry Bird?
(I know Larry Bird said it also about Magic but only to return the compliment, I think they both know Bird was the better player of the two)
Miss those ASG unis.
All I know is that Lemieux was better than Gretzky
Lemieux is the GOAT and no one will ever change my mind.
I don’t think Gretzky could match the one month 51 point tear Lemieux had in ‘93 when Pittsburgh was unbeatable.
Mario was supreme!!!!
Mario is the greatest and most spectacular hockey player I’ve ever seen
I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 90’s so I was fortunate to watch Mario live and in person often. He is still the smoothest and most graceful hockey player I have ever witnessed. He could slice through the neutral zone with such ease that it looked like he wasn’t even trying. Skated around defenders like they were cones. Literally like they were standing still. Couple that gift with his incredibly soft hands and IQ and you get a an average of 4 points a game. He was Le Magnifique, SUPER Mario.
