Guessing he gives it the season and decides from there

I was wondering why we haven’t tried to make a move for a D-man and this situation makes sense now. Likely has impacted our ability to make a move to address his extended absence. He may actually be able to come back soon and play this season if he opts out of surgery.
What a shitty situation for him, the team and us as fans.

Does it really make sense this year? I say shut him down and hope there’s more hockey left in him starting next year.

Guys a grinder can’t deny that. Should probably just get the surgery though lol.
thewolfshead
Don’t see how they could rely on him, would be just waiting for a reaggravation or subsequent injury.

Go after Dougie with NJ retaining salary. Send Chris to get the surgery, next season trade Benoit and if you can Rielly to open up some cap.

Goddamn, I love this beauty but maybe he should rest.

Tanny, my brother in Christ, go get that surgery done

Makes sense to wait. He can see what this year looks like and if the boys look like they are contending maybe come back and try and make a run. If not just get the surgery and come back in the middle of next year.

Tanev, my guy! Just rest and heal bud. We love you, and don’t want to see you do permanent damage that there will be no return.

We love Tanev and we desperately need him, but some things are bigger than hockey. Get the surgery king.

Get the surgery.
Not trying to write this season off, but do the work in the offseason to try and address the clear issues that have revealed themselves this season.
We need to think beyond this season.
Different story if the Leafs were sitting atop the league. This isn’t the kind of season to risk it all on.

Do we think it’s similar to the tkachuk injury? How long was his recovery? I feel like if he had the surgery in December he could’ve been back before playoffs… maybe

« Just pound a rusty nail in there and I’m good to go. Give me another one to chew on while you’re at it. » – Chris Tanev, probably.

For everyone saying get surgery and sit for the rest of the year, that probably impacts our ability to make a trade as teams know he’s not coming back. Also we basically rested Patches until the playoffs last year, and he was great in them for us. Tanev is a vet who takes a lot of bumps so resting him makes a lot of sense too. Who knows where he is at, but if he’s not had surgery there’s a reason and I think that’s a good thing, any way you slice it.
