I think the shame offensive could work for some players/coaches/management. You show just how ridiculous they look, and they might change their ways.
In either case, it’s good to see the Canadiens actively supporting it.
I hope all this positivity on the subject breaks the ice for someone to feel comfortable coming out

I don’t know what the point of this article is, whether they’re being honest or not.. what would you expect them to say publicly?
From my experience, “i don’t care who you have sex with as long as you aren’t a piece of shit” is the mentality of most people today. There’s always going to be the bigots, but even the bigots are “usually” smart enough to realize its career suicide to say anything against it publicly.
Id wager that if “out sports” goes into every professional locker room across all the major sports, with a reporter on record, that 100%of everyone would be welcoming to gay teammates.

I really hope this positive momentum continues and isn’t just a temporary boost, inclusiveness within the league has slowly been on the rise but it feels like Heated Rivalry of all things really could be the catalyst for lasting growth, hopefully the queer players already in the league are seeing this and feeling the support and all of the young players out there hoping to be drafted one day aren’t scared to be themselves out of fear of it impacting their future careers
As a gay fan I’ve personally noticed a huge shift the last few years, ten years ago interacting with fans online it always felt like I didn’t have a place among the old boys club but now it seems like so many more people are discovering how amazing the sport is and helping it grow

I would bet that everytime has a gay player in their locker room. Whether that locker room is welcoming or not is the question. Some teams refused to wear pride jerseys during warm up.
Yeah they always say that, and then when someone finally does come out they get totally blacklisted. Has already happened in pro football and baseball.

My guess is that once a guy like Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, McDavid, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Kucherov, Kane, Bedard, Celebrini, Matthews, etc. comes out publicly, that that’ll be the catalyst for average players to come out.
If I’m a 29 year old third line guy on a middle of the pack team making 3-4 million whose a UFA on my next (and likely last) multi – year deal, I don’t want to be the trailblazer that takes on that risk. I want to get my bag, fade into obscurity, and live my life.
I think the change is coming. But the unfortunate reality is that until a guy like Connor McDavid comes out, is received positively, and normalizes it, a guy like Cody Ceci just isn’t going to be comfortable making that leap.
What’s with the gay stuff they keep on shoving us this year? Can we just talk about hockey?
