IMO he’s actually a possible #1 or #2 for some teams if they don’t need wingers. No McDavids or Crosbys this draft and he’s a RD which is far more valuable then a winger.

  2. Striking_Economy5049

    BPA

Just got get whoever is the best available at the position you draft. I see this as nothing but the Canucks looking realistically at where they are drafting, 1, 2, or 3. Might as well get to know those players if you can.

  3. ImAlwaysSorrys

Feel a bit better with this information. Means we probably aren’t going to desperation pick one of the centers in this draft. I was a bit worried about taking Lawrence over McKenna when his stock was dropping a bit.

  4. EP40glazer

Hopefully this increases the odds of the #1 or #2 team picking him so we can get McKenna or Stenberg.

  5. flamingdragonwizard

His size and offensive output for his age is insane.. 6’4 215lb with room to grow..

  6. NacolasCage

Really gonna be interesting to see how the Canucks screw this up, somehow.

  7. This would mean that at some point, we’d need to eventually trade Hronek for a haul, right? For the right haul, I’d be fine with that.

  8. heatbagz

we are guaranteed a top 3 pick if we finish last.
    *when we finish last

  9. phantomgiratina

canucks will draft verhoeff at 3 if they get the 3rd overall pick, book it

  10. phantomgiratina

all the talk is about mckenna and stenberg, but i feel like there might be a GM out there that might have verhoef at number 2 because hes a 6’4 » RHD that can skate and is putting up really good numbers as an underage freshman

GMs go crazy for that, and RHD are the hardest to acquire

  11. Mcnucks

People are underestimating how good this kid is. By the draft he could easily be 6’5”, 220+. That’s as big as Zadorov was at the draft. Having that kind of size in a 1D would be incredibly valuable. Especially in playoffs.

  12. SevenIn7

If the Canucks think he’s the BPA whether that’s at 1, 2 or 3 it’s fine with me. Ideally you’d want a McKenna or Stenberg but if Verhoeff is the best in their eyes a Buium Verhoeff first pair would be pretty damn nice.

  13. Iniminex

I mean, if he’s the BPA and ends up hitting his ceiling, a Buium/Verhoeff first line pairing would go sicko mode. The defense is always the hardest part of the rebuild from what I can tell, and the Canucks seem to be good to go on that front.

We’re most likely drafting third, so I won’t complain about any of the three we get, any of them will be huge additions for us.

  14. iDontLack

Very probable we pick him at 3rd. Then maybe flip another d-man for a forward

  15. Coyote56yote

BPA is a must. Canucks will be in the top 5 for at least three years regardless.

  16. Upstairs_Bad897

Are they already trying to come up with an excuse for not picking Mckenna lol

  17. YouCanFucough

He might have the best release I’ve ever seen from a defenceman in their draft year. The kid is so damn skilled

  18. ScarvesOnGiraffes

Good. Kids an absolute stud. Amazing consolation prize if we miss out on McKenna or Stenberg.

  19. Stromboli1

How is his shot? I miss that big booming Salo esque shot from the point & on the PP. The Canucks haven’t had that since Salo left.

I also like Chase Reid as well too.

If the Canucks draft a D in the 1st Rd, I want Verhoeff or Reid.

  20. Iyerlicious

Verhoef is a 200 ft player, he can defend, shoot, skate, does everything really well. His point production at the NCAA as a 17 year old is very impressive. It’s better than Owen Power who was a number 1 pick, although in a weak draft. He projects to be a solid number 2 defensemen. Imagine Hronek but with more size and physicality. He has a very high floor too, so you can’t go wrong with this pick

  21. Caffeine-n-Chill

Tbh I prefer Verhoeff the most

  22. EverySecondCountss

I’m sure they’re meeting with all the top prospects.

  23. niht_awl

if we’re drafting 3rd sure take him, but if we pick him with the 1st OA I’m going to crash out.

  24. Comfortable-Goat-734

I really love the idea of drafting Verhoeff. A 6”4 RHD with franchise potential is almost impossible to find. I’d take him over McKenna and maybe Stenberg.

    Imagine in 5 years a d-core of:

    Buium – Verhoeff

    D-Petey – Willander

    ???? – Hronek

If all players develop well that has to be a top-5 D in the league.

  25. TheGreatNathan

55% chance of picking 3rd. So yeah no surprise the team will be scouting who to pick if they fall in the draft.

  26. HesOneShot92

I thought they weren’t allowed to interview or see them until the draft combine?

  27. PeytonistheManning

As a UND fan who watches 90% of the games, he is a huge part of our success this year. Outside of his obvious physical traits, he truly has everything you could want in a young D man. Unafraid to let it rip offensively and his defensive game has only gotten better as the season goes on. Pair that with a bit of a nasty streak and his crazy work ethic, and hes looking like a bonafide top pair D in the next few years. Draft him and enjoy the show!

  28. duke113

Vancouver needs to figure out a way to trade Garland and others, then package picks together, and get Verhoeff and McKenna

  29. Bubbly_Chemist1496

Verhoff: please God don’t let the Canucks pick me lol

seriously who in their right mind would want to join the canucks . it’s not a very well managed team

  30. underneathsink

I think there’s a solid case for drafting Verhoeff no matter what. He’s the kind of defenseman who wins Stanley Cups.

  31. Tofu_Analytics

Im honestly happy to get anything of the top 3. While McKenna is touted as the #1 having another 2 way physical sweedish 1c sounds awesome, and I do just love the sounds of Verhoff as well. With the standings tightening up [and the potential playoff matches early on] that wild pick is looking a lot better and could genuinely end up as an early 20s now. I’d be extatic if we could trade up and get a center if we end up opting for McKenna and specifically if we end up going the route of Verhoff.

Overall I think the team has done a solid job of asset management in the last 2 months which is a great change of pace from their usual shit. Hopefully we can move some of our other UFAs and grab ourselfs some more mid rounders or fodder to trade up for a mid 1st.
