Keeping Thompson wasn’t an option. He requested the trade, he didn’t get along with the coaching staff
Nothing matters until after Olympic break
Thompson didn’t want to stay, it was his decision to leave
There are no goalies on the market. Nobody is going to take Adin Hill and his contract when he’s playing like this. We have no assets to trade to make the deal better.
Adin is better than this, he’ll figure it out.
Every management has an Achilles heel. It just so happens that VGK’s is with goalies.
Idk if his contract was a thank you for the 2023 Cup run, but it’s absolutely brutal in terms of ROI/value.
I just hope they can get better at this whenever they have the opportunity to fix their previous mistakes (Fluery imo, Thompson, Hill’s contract, etc)
Ya ain’t gonna be able to sell Hill. If we don’t want him, nobody will. It would take huge resources to sell a 29 year old sub .900 sv% goalie in the first year of a 6 year, 6.25 million dollar contract PLUS a modified NTC (10 teams this year). Then we would have to spend even crazier resourses to get a better goalie.
First contract in a while that was kind of a head scratcher to me. But I still have faith.
Is Fleury available?
I’ll put 3 goals on Adin.
Ain’t no way in hell I’m putting the other unanswered 4 on him.
Team sport, team loss. Onto the next one.
Adin Hill. Is. The. Worst. Contract. There were a few of us back in the day that said that and here we are. Why people defend him is a mystery. Give me stats why he’s worth it. Give me examples why his downside recently gives him hope. All they do is blame the defense.
Yeah other goalies never have bad games
Hill is a borderline elite tendie. His career Sv% is just over .900. In the modern era that makes him a solid starter. League average is right at .900. His goals saved above average is +17.6 which is very strong, Vasi is at +20 for context. He is easily better than half the goaltending situations in the league. His contract is high but that’s the reality of the current market. No one is going to step in to replace his numbers you would need a top 10 goaltender for it to even be worth it.
Schmid is a good backup but his GSAA is -2 after having been put in a starting role too much. The knights goal diff is only +10 this year. If they had Hill in the crease that’s 9 or 10 extra goals. Which is huge especially if you consider how many OTL the Knights have. The knights could have 70 points if Hill wasn’t out the first part of this season.
Probably more if you consider how abysmal Carter Hart was and how much the extra minutes hurt Schmid’s game.
Want Markstrom?
Skinner’s performance tonight for Pittsburgh is proof that goalies who struggle can come back to have great games. Ease up on Hill.
Trade him just to free up the cap space. We don’t need him when we have Schmid / Hart.
