From this list, I would assume troch is the only one where we may have to give up a B level prospect.
for me, it’s either trocheck and thomas. trocheck would probably slip right in because he has some familiarity with the system, but thomas is younger and may work better in the long term. i think it’s up to management and coaching to figure out which works for the team. thomas would be more expensive, which means maybe nadeu goes…
I don’t know what you consider « key pieces », but you have to give up value to get value. A good 2C brings in a lot of value, so it’s going to take something meaningful to get one. Maybe there is someone out there that can be had for a big pile of prospects and draft picks, but the more likely situation is that anyone who will improve the team in any meaningful way at the center position will cost you someone of note from the current roster.
trochek is definitely the most cost effective option, although its possible he won’t want to come back.
thomas feels like the absolute best option, but im not sure what we’d have to give to get him, it feels like it’d be a lot.
petterson weirdly feels very possible without giving up real roster players, kk going back the other way gives them the reclamation project center they want and eases the cap hit on our end, unsure what the other capital would end up being but given how low his value is atm it’s probably less than thomas.
Thomas is the dream but it would probably mean losing a young guy from the top 6. If I had to guess most teams see KK as a reclamation project so his value isn’t great. Probably would also take at least a 1st, either Blake, Stank or Niki and the prospect of their choice.
Trocheck would be similar targets but less quantity. Maybe a 1st and later round, Nadeau and KK. Or they ask for one of the 3 young guys but don’t get a 1st. I think this is the most flexible potential trade.
I think Petterson could be interesting but it depends on how accurate the rumors about him are. If no one is willing to overpay and they really want him gone then he could be a steal.
Many here seem to want Trocheck but I don’t think he’s the player he was 3-4 years ago and he’s on the wrong side of 30. I hope we swing bigger for someone like Thomas who is good now and can be good for another 5+ years.
I don’t think the blues are serious about trading Thomas. They want more than anyone will realistically give and he’s still young and locked in for a rebuild
I think Kadri is the most likely.
I know everyone would love to have Thomas (so would I) but I think the asking price would be too high for Tulsky to swallow, and if you listen to interviews with Rod, he feels like the top lines get pushed around too much in the playoffs.
And let’s face it – if we end up facing Florida again in the playoffs (which I think we all believe is likely at some point) a guy like Kadri would be a nice asset to have.
