It’s going to be interesting to see how this team looks after the trade deadline.

This piece is an example of the bizarre mythologizing of Scott Laughton. I have never seen such overrating of a decent player as him. Losing Laughton’s magical cultural properties is not why the team is struggling.

Oh, and the team who *did* acquire Laughton’s magical cultural properties? They’re currently struggling as worse as they have in nearly a decade.

I dont have a subscription so I can’t read that, but I have a hard time believing we have culture issues when it’s been the #1 focus for 3 seasons now. Worry about the lack of talent later.

Flyers were like we need to rebuild but can’t trade anyone because we need to keep our culture.

Presumes to trade one guy (Laughton) then go “we lost our culture”

What’s the point of like the 8 other leaders we’ve kept around, and 2 coaches entirely trying to be culture /standard guys?

I think it’s tough when the captain is one of the worst performing players on the team right now and has a contract that everyone knows is going to be an anchor around this team’s neck for years.

Jesus H Christ, ITS NOT A CULTURE PROBLEM, ITS A LACK OF TALENT PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Own_Result3651

What’s weirdly funny is Laughton apparently lost all his culture the second he was put in Toronto. They might miss the playoffs for the first time in I don’t know how many years lol… weird coincidence

Culture thing never existed. It was all Corporate mumbo jumbo to get fans to buy back into doing the same shit over and over again. Its like how teams always talk about looking for a coach for accountability. Thats another thing thats done by every coach out there.

as it turns out, the culture is not damn good. ikykykyk

  11. JustTucks

« culture » is just marketing speak to sidestep management’s incompetence. That’s all.

I dont think the front office understands that a real rebuild would’ve solved this « culture » issue. Drafting quality young players and letting them play together is how a new winning culture develops. The problem the Flyers always have is keeping old vets. Laughton, Sanheim, TK, Coots, etc. It probably sounds harsh but these guys are losers. They’re the ones who have been enjoying the lazy country club vibe this team has that all the coaches complain about.

If you want real change, you need to clean house.

Culture is a word that bad teams use in order to make it look like the FO is doing something. I have no doubts Jones and Briere want to develop an identity for this team eventually but right now they don’t have one.

I’d make the argument that the team showed more “culture” under Torts. You could at least see the difference on the ice that first season. They weren’t good but the guys showed up to play and stuck up for one another.

  14. DEATHCATSmeow

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard the word “culture” when reading about this team I could buy myself a very nice, gently used 2023 Honda Civic. For fucks, what’s it going to take the chuckleheads behind this team to STFU about it?

  15. Powerful_Book4444

Team hasn’t seen playoffs in 15 years. THE CULTURE!!! This team has as much as culture as an office cubicle. What’s so important about the culture anyway??? Do they have hawaiian shirt day in the locker room? Free pizza day??

    THIS TEAM IS GARBAGE.

    THIS MANAGEMENT IS GARBAGE.

THIS ONCE GREAT FRANCHASE IS GARBAGE.

Clean house starting with Coots and everyone else who can’t make a pass or score a goal!

  16. Grouchy_Situation_33

As a MRSA “survivor” every time I hear the word culture I think of infectious disease.

    Maybe I’m not far off.

  17. Typical-Jellyfish350

Im not even going to bother reading the article, but I am so tired of the word culture with this team. Who the F cares about culture if the organization isnt progressing. These players can be so close they can have nightly circle jerks for all I care, but it still doesnt erase the fact that the talent is not there. Nor is it in the AHL, ECHL, or anywhere minus a few players.

You know I’m pleasantly surprised that this sub is starting to see the light as to what a poorly run mediocre franchise this is.

The stepfording over Jonsey and Danny’s half assed “rebuild” the last few years has been brutal.
