He’s been a good warrior for the Hawks through lean times. Hopefully we can send him to a playoff bound team

I will always support Murphy…he has been a great veteran presence for the Hawks and I will genuinely be disappointed to see him go. I know he’s not the strongest player, especially as he gets older, but I think he brings really great leadership to a team that has been retooling/rebuilding for essentially his entire tenure.

I’ve gotten to meet him a couple of times and he is one of the nicest people off the ice too. I would love to see him go to a team that could give him a chance to play playoff hockey.

Murphy has been with the team for a long time now but has never gotten much recognition because it’s been during such a rough stretch. It’s kind of sad that he spent all this time here while we were floundering in the basement and then won’t be around when the team actually starts competing again.

  4. I hope we send him to a playoff team. Great veteran player. I’ll miss seeing him in a Hawks jersey.

  5. Murphy has been a calm presence through the storm. Its sad he will not have a chance to see the light break on the horizon with this team.

the guy’s not fast or flashy, but he’s always been a hard worker, stood up for his teammates, and played with effort.

I’m glad most (for now) of the comments are positive. I do hope he gets a chance to play for a contender. At 32 years old, he’s running low on good years of play. I’d welcome him back on the right contract/term if he wanted to return. He’ll never go down in history like 2 or 7, but he’s been a pillar for a long time, and while I’m sure most would find it « too much » of a gesture for someone who isn’t a superstar, if he calls it quits I’d still welcome him getting a 1 day contract to retire as a hawk. Clearly Chicago is his home.

‘course I was the guy wearing a Hjalmarsson jersey since his first year with us, and screaming loudly for every shot Sopel blocked, so I’ve always had a soft spot for the unsung guys.

Insane that we signed him as soon as we became ass and had to start a rebuild. Guy deserves a playoff run so bad. We managed to waste his prime. I hope so bad he can go play for a contender before he retires

Simple: Keep him. Get a friendly deal to hold on to him.

He can honor us by going to a team who will make the playoffs. This team is 3-5 years from that.

I hope Murphy goes to a contender, and I hope he gets to raise a Cup before he retires
