This is a very good discussion on how to view the cap, building a roster, and "overpaying" players. To view a single player's cap hit without the context of the entire team is kinda dumb. Also, the entire league is a business. Palat overperformed his team-friendly deals for a very long time and another team helped even it out for the player. This happens for a lot of players. They may not get paid by their starting team and have to move on to be "made whole" by another team.
Kind of a an unwritten gentleman's agreement in the league.
Also, Callahan helped bring so many Rangers to Tampa, hehe.
