Basically nothings gonna change with Grebenkin or Michkov playing time. Hes still leaning on the fucking “came into camp out of shape excuse.” It’s clearly malicious.

  2. Everlovin

Everyone saw this coming, I was willing to give him a chance. He’s positioned this team to be in the worst possible situation so far this season. We’re in the mushy middle at the expense of the development of our young talent. This is the foundation for long term failure.

  3. jlando40

Enough of fire this fire that how about Comcast has to go?

  4. scratchydaitchy

I really wanted us to keep Shaw.

    Tocchet was surprising.

    Positives:
If we only look at attracting free agents and trade targets then clearly Tocchet was a better choice than Torts who is very unpopular with players.

He does seem to be giving good opportunities to certain young players like Barkey, Zegras, Drysdale, Foerster when healthy, and eventually gave Andrae a long look on the 2nd pair.

    Negatives:
He definitely seems to not be giving opportunities to Michkov and Grebenkin.
His overall hockey structure is boring and unassertive.
He has bizarre quotes such as wanting the players to criticize each other for example.

I’m a big supporter of Brière, I feel he’s made a lot of great moves.
Even I’m disappointed in the Tocchet hire so far.

  5. I think ultimately it’s a square peg/round hole. Remember, the “Mad Russian” Torts quote came from talking about going to more of a rush based system that fits him and IMO the roster as a whole has more rush based players.

It’s definitely noteworthy that the only other person he directly criticized was also Russian I actually think there is something to his anti-Russian bias

Edit to say I don’t doubt that he came into camp out of shape and I don’t like that either so committing to staying here next offseason was important for me.

Man, absolute horrible answer from Tocchet. It looks like there’s nothing Michkov can do this season to get his ice time increased which is fucked.

Honestly, for Michkov’s sake, I hope he’s traded to a team that will develop him into the player he has the potential to be.

That or fire Tocchet at the end of the season. I don’t want to go through another season like this. After everything Tocchet has said, I do not believe that if Michkov comes in great shape at the start of next season that he will get properly developed.

Can you give those of us who didn’t see the interview any insight on why the interview made it even more obvious to can him?

  8. Flyfreaky55

Sadly, for the past many years, the management foundation of this team has been built upon former players who don’t know what the hell they’re doing.

  9. EmerysMemories1106

I blame yesterdays loss on my 10 year old son. He has been to 5 flyers games in his life…4 of them were overtime losses (Oilers and kings this season, canes and preds in 23-24). He said he wanted to see more hockey but I don’t think that’s what he meant.

  10. StrigiStockBacking

The dude hates Russian players, past and present. It’s fucking weird.

10 minutes of TOI for Mich is unacceptable. People need to bring signs to the arena that say « FREE MICHKOV » or something.

Flyers top brass: Stop fucking hiring ex-players for everything. Make a statement that you’re above that, and you just want professionals in those roles, no matter where they came from.

  11. Z_Clipped

    >PHLY Flyers interview could not have gone worse.

Scintillating analysis, OP. You really gave this one some thought, huh?

  12. memesdotpdf

The anti-russian bias is for sure a huge part. Michkov then gets the double whammy for being young, which Tocchet also doesn’t do well with.

  13. jdf_1530

Mich looks sad at the carnival. I hate it but I don’t think he’ll be here this time next year

  14. cjmaguire17

Danny needs a fire sale. Only way michkovs TOI goes up

  15. dadnauseum

jonesy was interviewed on the same broadcast, very lightly saying something along the lines of “we gotta remind the coaching staff to prioritize our young guys.”

i have a feeling he and briere are not happy with tocchet so far.

  16. Mean-Reaction6021

Fire him, sell the team comcast. Something gotta fucking give man some rich guy in the northeast gotta love the flyers more than Comcast extracting all the fan money just for existing. I didn’t like this hire from day one. I knew it was right back to the same old bullshit and I didn’t wanna believe it cuz Danny was one of my favorites growing up but man this is fucked lol. Same old good old boy bullshit my dad grew up watching hey atleast he got to see some cups though. I refuse to watch buy merch or go to games until something changes. Real change. Not bullshit mediocrity, I advise everyone else that also cares about the guys on the team and the organization (not Comcast) I mean the team itself to do the same thing. They only make change when the fans embarrass the fuck out of them.

  17. Rude_Plantain7123

The Jones interview was no better. He was asked about Michkov and immediately mentioned the offseason and how there’s a price to pay. All these idiots are on the same page so get ready for at least 2 more years of Tocchet.

  18. Hate to say but I saw this coming last off-season, hiring tocc never made any sense for the point we are at in our rebuild & truthfully, I’ve had no interest in watching any games this season

I love this team, but Danny B went so far off track with the tocc hire that it strikes me as a Fletcher level bad move..

I just have no interest in watching a team that is completely directionless

Shaw was *the guy* for this team

  19. nittygritty84

For anyone else wondering where this was, here’s a link: https://www.youtube.com/live/NMKWTOu3Hz8?si=WoX-VeUc9Nao98IV

The Michkov question is at about 29.30 and fucking hell it is diabolically bad. Basically, Michkov lost any chance he had by making a bad first impression and that’s that. I fully get what it’s like to be a grudge monster but Jesus, that’s not a personality to take into coaching human beings into being best versions of themselves.

  20. GadsenLOD

It’s crazy that if Cam York wasn’t a fucking whimp and could handle shit talk we wouldn’t be down this path right now. Briere really picked the side of the players and it was in favor of the most average dime a dozen top 4 defenseman.

You know, Torts said shit every now and then but there were even some lines he wouldn’t cross in the media. And he fuckin played Mich 16 minutes a game. After scratching and benches. They had spats. They also had a mutual understanding. At least he wasn’t a fucking idiot and understood his players and tried to put them in the best positions for them to succeed as he understood it. Even if it was misguided sometimes.

Fucking tacoman thinks dump and chase is the ultimate playstyle for all players to achieve.

How much better off would they be if they had just rode out the end of the year. Found a way to move Couturier with retention and a late pick or something. Moved York in a hockey trade or for a pick.

Or fuck even if they had just given Shaw the next year. Somebody build a time machine.

  21. JSinisin

    This stance drives me nuts.

    1. It’s way too early. Multiple injuries. New systems.

    2. You get 1 chance at a first impression. Michkov fucked it up. Do I wish Tocchet would give him more ice time? Yes I do. But Michkov is far from blameless in this. As a professional athlete, you have 1 and only 1 job for training camp, the first training camp of a new coach. Show up in shape. Michkov did not. In Michkovs own words he took the first summer off. His FIRST summer after NHL hockey. Where EVERYONE knows of sophomore slumps. And that’s the offseason he decides to take off?

On top of that, the coach is a former player! So it’s someone that knows what it takes too. Basically Michkov broke the one rule he shouldn’t have broken with a new coach, let alone a former player coach.

Could you imagine if he had shown up in that shape for Torts? He wouldn’t have seen even double digit minutes till January. He’d have been healthy scratched a dozen times.

I’m not saying you trade Michkov. But come on. Hold the kid a little more accountable lmfao.

    3. Look at York, Drysdale and Zegras under Tocchet. Seems to be going pretty good to me. Foerster was playing damn good under him too.

Saying ANY coach has to go less than 6 months into their first season is insanity. The people making this comment are a joke.
