good for bill for actually coming out and saying it

  2. LuckyCulture7

I understand what Tocchet is saying. It rings hollow when the team is losing as much as they are.

  3. memesdotpdf

Yeah he’s right. He didn’t answer the question.

  4. Papa-Brickolini

This guy have ADHD? Or am I the only one who couldn’t follow? Do I have ADHD? What was the answer?

  5. qmak420

Bill is a legend for this, Tocc looked pissed.

By all accounts, Tocchet should be a dead man walking, yet I get the sense the organization is prioritizing their newly-signed head coach with a career losing record and no history of developing young talent over their budding young star. This organization is so screwed up from top to bottom.

I wish one of them asked “If the reason he is still not getting more ice time is because he didn’t come into camp in shape 5 months ago, are you saying that there’s nothing he can do this season to get more ice time?”

  8. CybertronGuy98

On the one hand, I get what Tocc is saying. Nothing should be handed to a player just because of their pedigree coming out of the draft. You gotta work for it. And Mich is struggling in some areas of his game this season.

However. We didn’t draft him 7th overall while saying “how the hell did we manage to land this kid” just for him to play 10 minutes. We didn’t draft him so that we could mess around and play him at left wing when it’s clear it’s not as good a fit for him as right.

Throwing the lines in a blender and seeing what happens is one thing, and I’d be able to get on board with it in a vacuum considering how the season is gone, losing Foerster for the year especially.

But that’s assuming you’re giving the players with the most upside and most importance to the franchise’s rebuild the opportunity they and the team both need in order to actually make this work

  9. Said it as soon as he was hired that hiring him would set the franchise back at least 5 years. That’s exactly what’s happening barring some draft lottery luck and a 1 and done firing of Tocchet

Jones was interviewed later and said something along the same lines about Michkov. Kinda seems like they’re setting the narrative for when Michkov leaves or ends up traded. They’ll just say he was lazy and didn’t fit the culture.

Oh my gosh this sounds like the way you know who answers questions 😂 word salad, hockey sounding word, word salad, athlete word, word salad. C’mon Tocc.

  12. PotentialPea2419

Sounds like the same rhetoric he was spewing in Vancouver. Good on them for asking the question though.

  13. Concerned_Fanboy

    >Whaddya want me to do give him 17 minutes ice time?

    Yes mfer

  14. HystericalHysteria87

I think it’s safe to say I’ve never disliked a coach more than Tocc.

As I said in the other thread about this:

Kids are going to fuck up and occasionally be awful and there should be consequences for that, and the parent obviously determines what those are.

But if you ground your kid for an entire year even after they’ve admitted they fucked up and are clearly working to make up for it, you’re not helping them realise there are conquences to their actions – you’re teaching them that there’s no point in trying to make up for their mistakes because they can’t. The punishment here is simply not proportionate to the crime, and the bad news for the team is that unlike in a regular parent-child relationship, where there would be lasting resentment but nowhere to go, Michkov doesn’t *have* to stay here forever.

He definitely fucked up. But this year is just a giant waste of time – what is he learning, beyond that he should come to camp in shape or he’ll get punished for it for a whole season?

  16. BigHead1012

Worst coaching hire possible – should have kept Brad Shaw or Torts over Tocchey Hockey

  17. Mean-Reaction6021

Someone needs to grill Danny and the FO for making this hire. Legit worst case scenario for our young guys. Fuck this guy.

  18. BigHead1012

Why isn’t Michkov on PP1 ???? Someone ask that !!’

  19. BigHead1012

You would think we could look at Zegras and think….let’s not make the same mistake Ducks did, let’s prioritize the player over the HC (ironically Ducks fans now blame Cronin for Zegras 2 years Tocchet mentioned).

« That’s the rule of winning » – says the coach who has had 2 winning seasons with 3 teams in 9 seasons (soon to be 2 with 4 in 10.

Thankfully when it comes down to it, I have full faith that Flyers will pick the side of 21 year old Russian who they themselves positioned as the face of the franchise when they brought him over, and not the fossil coach who scored goals for this dead franchise 30 years ago.

When they trade him, I’m going with him. They’ll have lost me.

  21. Puzzled_Bus_7505

Rick Tocchet is a moron. He hates that everyone wants Michkov to play. You can tell it irks him big time to have to answer this question over and over and he’s going to die on this hill and keep punishing one of the best prospects in the game for it even if it costs him his job. Let’s just hope it doesn’t cost the flyers Matvei.

  22. Joe5205

So what I’m hearing is punishing Mich for showing up 6months ago out of shape is more important than developing his game. K, I’ve been on the fence about Toch, but that’s the dumbest shit ever.

  23. Tibor_BnR

« You can’t play your way into shape »

Well yeah, if you only play 10 minutes…

  24. MrRegularSeason

Yeah I’m 100% out on Tocchet. This is the guy they hired, in part, becasue he’s supposed to « get this market ».

  25. HJQueen

Literally everything that’s wrong with this team is still present after a decade+ of being irrelevant. The internal hires and old boys club still going strong. We’re not winning anything until this mindset is gone.

I’ve been a fan since 1996 or so and it’s just baffling how they continue down this road.

  26. SarGhoul24

It’s hard to write down my thoughts in a cohesive format without being disorganized or writing an essay. I’ll sum my thoughts up in 2 of my biggest points:

    1) Even if he came in wildly out of shape and isn’t working to get in shape (which I don’t buy), why wouldn’t you keep comments like this in house? I don’t think I’ve seen a coach openly shit talk a player this much. Give the political answer and move on you clown of a coach.

    2) The way this franchise is handling this situation makes me lean towards Cutter’s side in how all of that went down. If they are willing to treat MM like this on behalf of a dinosaur coach then it wouldn’t shock me if they botched that whole thing and pushed the kid out behind some bullshit “strong culture play for the crest” bullshit.

  27. BigMik_PL

Tbf to Tocch he isn’t saying outrageous things and I would be more inclined to believe him if:

    a) we weren’t horribly losing and falling apart

    b) he didn’t have a history of ruining other young talent

Because of that I just take everything he says with a grain of salt.

  28. StackThePads33

I get his point, coming in to camp out of shape is no good. But at some point give got to give him a shot to prove himself
