Yeah, per Frank Seravalli, it was not expected. It might be a personal or family-related decision.

I wish him well. He brought the Cup to Washington. He was an exceptional coach, even though he wasn’t the best GM. I hope retirement is good to him.

I will wait for the press conference for more information, but I am not at all surprised it didn’t work out.

One of the biggest mistakes this front office has ever made was not agreeing to pay him the league average for a coach after winning the cup.

He got us a Cup. For that I hold no hard feelings and wish him well.

As much as he irritated me with his over reliance on veterans we probably had another 2 years of serious runs left in us if he stayed. Alas, he didn’t like the extension he had previously agreed upon, management was ready to move on anyway, and…we got Reirden. And then Laviolette who was a serious letdown. Hell, I bought into the Reirden hype too, a lot of us thought he was the secret to success behind Trotz’s ways. What a waste, in hindsight.

As for the GM thing, you brought in a bunch of high value pieces. At least try hiring a different coach before giving up bro.
