Ken Holland signs him to 7×12.. just wait. Please happen

  2. greythedork12

Context: Panarin has a full NMC and could pick the team he went to

  3. Wrath_Of_Aguirre

Liam Greentree? Is he a LOTR character?

  4. uniqueusername1319

People seem to be forgetting he had a full NMC. Drury is a terrible GM but if Panarin was forcing his hand to get him to LA for whatever reason then that’s all there is to it.

  5. sharkbates1208

I’m assuming bc he had a nmc he didn’t wanna go anywhere else and only a big market (that was the rumor) so this was the rangers best offer

  6. According-Delay-158

Of course . Just waiting for a rumor to come to fruition for our team. Just one good one. Just one.

  7. topshko_niin

ESPN scooped all the Sportsnet and tsn guys?!? ESPN!!!!

  8. GillyDaKid

Drury felt like this was the best offer huh? Lmao

  9. Valace2

The Rangers are gonna be mediocre for years to come.

  10. Miserable-Medicine85

Insanely weak return. Have seen Greentree play in person, good player, but his stock has been trending downwards. There must not be an extension in place with this return.

EDIT: there is an extension in place

Honestly this is a solid deal for the Kings. This is a team that needed offensive firepower, they didn’t give up a ton for him, and he fits with their timeline.

And for us, he’s in the west.

Good bit of business by Kenny.

  12. AKchaos49

That doesn’t seem like a good deal for NY….

  13. Little-Knee5682

Who TF picked this photo? It’s giving toddler mid-meltdown instead of intense star player?

  14. TheMadDog39

Good move for LA tbh, they needed wing help in the worst way. Plus its Kopitars last season, so gotta go all out.

  15. LGRW_Sparty88

I was high on Greentree in his draft year. Has a huge D+1 year but still in juniors. Not the return I was imagining but I haven’t heard about an extension yet. Maybe he couldn’t get the contract he wanted where he wanted so he only waived for this deal. NYR were going to lose him for nothing atthe end of the year but surprised they didn’t wait until TDL.

  16. Usual-Personality347

Greentree is a very good prospect lol, he’s not a bad player. It would take one of our better prospects to make it happen, I wouldn’t be too jealous.

  17. Shackman58

Gotta be honest – he’s exactly what the Kings need

  18. DESOLATE7

thank god. anyways can we have robert thomas yet?

  19. jarvek7

So… I guess there *really was* some smoke and fire at this mini-TDL. Doesn’t seem like much of a return for Panarin, but what do I know.

  20. hawkcanwhat

This probably squeaks LA into the playoffs for another first round exit.

Agents and players alike all peddle for NMC’s and NTC lists in the salary cup world, making these kind of trades a luxury for teams in fabled destinations. Panarin did the same with New York when he didn’t re-sign with CBJ, he only wanted ‘The Big Apple’ and did not choose where to sign based on hockey and winning reasons. Well, not entirely true, winning with NYR would have made him a bigger legend than most anywhere.

LA is similar, better weather, movie stars, a haven for very rich people, it makes sense given his past signing actions and likely perspective on life in that regard.

Detroit is lucky to be able to offer rich OG6 history and deep hockey roots, but other than that, the team needs to be very good or have been a home / home State for the player growing up like Cat for them to stronghandle a trade only here. Quinn Hughes if he really really wanted could have demanded it and made it very hard for Van to go against it. Would have been interesting if he had the same full control of his destination as Panarin did (and EP40 does).

Regardless, pay no attention to the trade cost of Panarin because of this and his NMC, it is not a real market value cost. Holland did not make a genius trade, it fell into his lap because Panarin only wanted to go to LA.

  22. thefonzz91

This is an all around great deal for LA tbh. I know Panarin got to choose his destination basically but if he was willing to go to Detroit this seem like a missed opportunity.

  23. thefonzz91

Ah so it came out he only wanted LA. Well fair enough.

  24. SealTeamSticks5

Thank God we didn’t give him an extension and waste time/money/picks on him.

  25. Hamburgersandwiche3

Honestly, im pretty cool with this. Despite that fact that I do really want to wings to make some solid moves, everything thay I was looking at just felt like the asking proce was too steep for my liking (thats just me).

  26. Sekshual_Tyranosauce

    Wow. That’s quite a steal.

  27. jfstompers

We better hear he’d only waive for Florida or LA

  28. TankYouLosers

The fact that Ken Holland had this fall into his lap is like top tier rage bait for me. Dude just got a legit first line superstar for less than what he gave up to rent the corpses of David Legwand and Erik Cole back in the day.

And then he got him to extend at 2×11?! Where was this savvy when he was handing out bad extensions like candy to Abdelkader and negotiating against himself for Frans Nielsen?

  29. magikarp-sushi

Well now we can lay that to rest and get a Dman
