Objectively correct Olympic rooting interest tier ranking based entirely on uniforms:

    S – Slovakia

    A- Sweden

B- Germany, Switzerland (logo is a big plus)

    C- USA, Czechia, Denmark, Finland

    D- Canada

    E- Latvia,

    F- Italy, France

Can someone explain why someone wasn’t beheaded for the intentional cup check on their captain?

  3. Bobby_Orrs_Knees

Time to see if the Rangers want to trade Rempe fora conditional pick.

  4. Dizziest

Todd’s got some work to do during the break, needs to find a way to get more offence out of the team. Hoping that January was just the off month and after a rest they’ll come out flying. LGRW!

  5. big_phat_gator

McKenna had a pretty mid NCAA season so far so very interesting strategy from his side to start breaking jaws to spice it all up a little bit.

  6. GrayDeer412

Much though I like Finnie’s future, any trade that pushes him down, Soderblom out, Rasmussen down, and JBD/Hamonic out would be very welcome. Finnie needs a trip to the fourth line. He’s hit the wall big time.

  7. AmeriCanada98

Unlike the last few years where it seems like we were flaming hot going into a break and came out flat afterwards, we are really limping into this one

Hope that means the team will use it to mentally reset and get back to what was working earlier in the season. Only time will tell

I found myself at the Rangers sub just now checking out the responses on the Panarin trade. I was not disappointed. Drury has really done things, who owns them? They can fire Drury right? I can’t see why you’d keep him around at this point

  9. neznarf

5th worst 5v5 goals for, and league worst in the last 20 games. Meanwhile every team we are and will be competing with for a playoff spot is in the top 10 in that category, besides Pittsburgh (11th best) and the Islanders (22nd best). I know it’s not a be all end all stat, but (at the moment) this team simply isn’t like the other playoff teams, East or West. Offensively, we’re lumped in with lottery teams.

  10. Old-News-3096

On the plus side Kasper looks like he’s really getting a sense of how to play with Raymond. If they can keep it up maybe we move Larkin with Debrincat to jumpstart our 5on5 offense. Ideally we find another skilled center, maybe the Blues get serious about moving Thomas

  11. Beatricejd

Sweden wins against Team Germany in the women’s Olympic hockey tournament. Very nice.

  12. AirCanoe

Genuinely burst out laughing when I checked the score this morning and saw the only goal was a Larkin PPG – my man cannot buy a 5v5 point.

This team needs this break so bad, I’m a little worried about the guys coming over to Europe.

  13. TheNation55

Shoulda just pulled a blatant major for a free 5 on 3, dunno what the boys are even doin’ out there anymore.

  14. Training-Evening9756

I have a feeling last night’s game plays out a little differently if the refs didnt absolutely fuck us in the first. The break should do this team some good. They need a reset

  15. N_Unit13

Wonder what we think about Plante. 2nd rounder killing it in the NCAA, but I’ve heard his skating, as of now, is not nearly good enough for the NHL. Might be a good trade chip if another team thinks he can put it all together

  16. culturedrobot

Just breathe and watch some curling

  17. Prudent_Shame_4531

I’m choosing to look for silver linings in the Olympics wherever they present themselves. USA or Sweden eliminated early? More rest for Larkin and Raymond. Either team goes deep into the medal games? Gives them a taste of winning. USA totally flops? Guerin gets humiliated for his roster construction and we get to make fun of him for all eternity. Win-win.

  18. jtromaine

Columbus is on fire. Another team to keep an eye on. The fight for those wild card spots is going to be crazy

  19. smittywerbenjagrmanj

What’s the largest package we feel comfortable with to grab Faulk + Thomas? Bear, Danielson, Augustine, multiple firsts? Does that even get it done?

  20. jarvek7

WTF. We finally « get good » and the whole freaking division decides to « get good » at the same time. I can understand Tampa but Columbus and Buffalo? What alternate reality did we enter?

  21. jackstalke

Look, I get Panarin had all the leverage. I’m choosing to laugh at Chris Drury anyway.

    My Cons:

Sad that they lost. It is very challenging to tolerate the inconsistencies of this team at times. Frustrating is the word. To me, losing games is not the issue as much as the lack of effort (disclaimer: I mean throughout the season so far) at times. I myself will need a break and that goes beyond the Olympics. There are so much more important things in life.

    My Pros:

Of course, I am glad they are doing better than years prior. That has been fun. Glad for Simon Edvinsson, ASP and Finnie. Kasper hopefully rising to where he was last season and even better going forward will be nice.

    My Neutral:

Trades: I think as I look at the expansion of more teams and the rising cap, I can understand the reason of re-signing Chiarot. Yes, Mario Ferraro may be a FA over the summer. However, these days many are re-signing such players. The market is thin and with 31 teams looking to bolster their rosters, it is more challenging then before. And if the NHL wants to go to 34 to 36 teams, it will only be more challenging. Thus, this TDL allows me to understand that Yzerman and crew may not do much or be able to do much. I guess what I am stating is that I can understand it. Do I want Robert Thomas like the rest of us? Yes.

    My View:

The NHL has changed and will continue to change. Teams in warmer climates with no taxes will serve as a better advantage over other clubs. To me, that is reason to allow for a flexible cap (teams in Canada where they have to pay double taxes come to mind). However, I would be surprised if it ever happens.

    My Wishes:

This is and has been a great forum. The best to all.

With how packed the division is, important to remember the wings have a relatively lighter schedule after the break than pretty much every other team. They’ve played more games than the majority of other teams and only have ~~one~~ two back to back left.

Gibson hasn’t looked as sharp to me recently. Have been concerned about the wings driving their #1 goalie in to the ground in overuse, so the Olympic break timing probably couldn’t be better.

Kind of a whimper to go in to the break. The win at Colorado was huge, but hoping these weeks off fire the team up a little

    edit: two back to backs

  24. Medievil_Walrus

I know it’s a different game today but I wish Yzerman and Illitch would remember that it wasn’t endless patience that build our 90s dynasty.

It was daring, unpredictable, and aggressive player acquisition.

Had Illitch not essentially stolen Fedorov from Russia, bribed doctors and bought out army contracts, made measured trades for the right players, Yzerman may have had to wait even longer for his first playoff win.

We traded for Vernon, Shanahan, stole Fedorov, traded for Murphy, bough out Konstantinov’s army contracts, traded for Larionov, traded for Fetisov, bribed doctors to diagnose kozlov with inoperable cancer, traded for Draper, traded for maltby.

The reason we had the teams we treasure so much is that we had an owner that was aggressive and willing to take some risks.

I’m not saying we have an ability to recreate the circumstance that allowed us to use low picks on Russians and creatively bring them over, or that we use a mid round pick to draft the perfect human defenceman, but I am saying that we should take some inspiration and take a damn risk.

  25. likesforyikes

I still have faith in the playoffs, but the 5v5 play over the last two months shows the deficiencies in talent and the gaps in role expectations. Good teams don’t live and die by guys like Copp, Kane, and Chiarot playing top-6/top-4 ES TOI while also playing young guys above their station.

  26. Cautious_Vast7819

Am I the bad guy for hoping Larkin doesn’t pop off at the Olympics

  27. SauceHankRedemption

Perfect timing for the Olympic break to interrupt the annual collapse

  28. OldBison

I for one welcome the break. Everything has been so nuts it’ll be nice to have one less thing rattling around in the old noggin. On a mildly related note, does anybody know if the Jamaican bobsled team is competing this Olympics?

  29. oceanic8675

Of the remaining 24 games, 10 are against the Atlantic teams and 19 are against Eastern Conference teams. It’s gonna be interesting.

We also have two back-to-backs remaining, and have entered the break at exactly .500 in that regard.

Last night’s game wasn’t a stinker, but it hurts more because we dropped those games against the Kings and the Caps. I’m still most angry at the Penguins games. And I dream of a mobile, generous power play.

We shut-out the Avs in Colorado, anything can happen post-break. Let’s go Red Wings, and good luck to our Olympians!

  30. antiheropaddy

I have really enjoyed Kasper the last few games, high motor but using his brain. Kane is looking worn out or something, half a step too slow to create the space he is trying to create. Larkin can’t think about anything but a medal between his teeth. Seider is the rock of this team, I think we all are calmer when he has the puck and good vision of the ice, you can trust he’s gonna make a good decision. I’m not happy to have a break from hockey but it does really look like they almost all want the rest.

  31. Unlikely-Waltz-550

We needed this break bad. Hopefully get Ed healthy and Stevie gets on the phones.

See you back after the break, going to be fun to cheer for guys I dream we had on our team.

    Go Canada 🇨🇦!

And Sweden if we suck lol

  32. Independent-Silver57

I’ve been a Larkin fan since he came into the league. I bought his jersey his rookie year, celebrated the “speed record” at the all star game, celebrated his captaincy when he was named, the whole nine.

But it’s been a rough month and a half watching him out there ngl. From losing his edge several times a night and ending up on the ice, to costly turnovers in the neutral zone, to last night… I mean oh captain my captain what in gods name was that..

I get it man, it was a dirty play by Utah going for a cup check out of the draw but they literally baited you into taking that penalty… as a captain, you gotta do better. I gotta imagine the Utah boys were laughing their ass off when he snapped their twig. Like alright bro, the fuck is that gonna do?

Take the major and drop the gloves or let it go and kill the PP and have a run at the guy later in the game. Taking a useless slashing penalty to go down 5 vs 3 in the first and give up a goal pretty much killed us from the start.

    BRUTAL. From the captain.
