  1. Right, absolutely correct. Drury exposed (unfortunately) how much he has to learn about being a good GM. Here is the right way to do it.

    1. Privately approach Artemi letting him know that he will not be resigned after speaking with Dolan.

    2. Get Panarin to give a list of teams he would be willing to waive his NMC for. Find out what kind of extension he was after.

    3. Then Drury calls the teams that match his description and ask the general manager for their discretion so that a deal can be put together privately. Do NOT give Artemi the power to dictate which team he goes to specifically. Do not give his camp the OK to talk to other teams until real trade assets are in place and real extension numbers are agreed to.

    4. Make each team pining for him sweat a little about the number of other teams interested.

    5. Panarin then hears through Drury what teams on his list are willing to extend for how long and how much.

    6. You take him out of the lineup and let the media speculate a trade is coming. No letter, no public statement.

    7. Panarin states emphatically after not playing he would like to be moved before the Olympic break.

    8. Tell him you will grant his wish if he chooses Team A, Team B or Team C. (None of those are LA unless the deal improves)

If he says he needs to first talk with those teams, say ok but that will mean doing so over the entirety of the olympic break. LA shoudn't have even been presented as a potential option until the return was set.

This is where Drury went wrong and just one more reason he should be fired. Need more? See how he handled the Trouba trade as recent example of his incompetence.

  2. I’m not a big fan of Drury. He definitely has messed up, but this is not one of the times. The turnover man and his agent held all the cards. Nothing to see here.

  3. He doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. He didn’t learn anything from Trouba situation, then puts Krieders name, now Panarin, who’s next.
Igor is an idiot for resigning up for the BS ( obviously it’s about the money) and Mika should should demand a trade to the one team of his choice. Why don’t these players just call the Rangers out and truly speak their mind

  4. Why does it matter if they told everyone? They have to tell Panarin because of the NMC, once they do he's free to talk to other teams. It was getting out either way real soon. If you keep quiet and hint that you may resign him, everyone would just wait to see what you do, then your losing time to make a deal later and other teams (the limited few Panarin would consider) may make other moves by then. A lot of gears turning all at once on this. There's limitations.
