NHL pipeline shifts I would say. Theres a video I watched recently about how the QMJHL presents worse opportunities for development and the rules not allowing those players to go to the AHL and such in the past has hampered their development a lot.
Like look at Lafreniere, his play in QMJHL did not transfer to NHL.
The real story is Nova Scotia going from 1 to 3
This isn’t entirely accurate as it is based on birthplace as opposed to where a player grew up. Even still, it has been shown for a time that the Quebecois junior hockey system is slowly lagging behind the rest of the country, I forget which draft it was but I remember that there was like 1 QMJHL player drafted in the first round alongside many from WHL/OHL.
quebec’s player development has lagged behind for years now and it’s reflected in the lack of top talent in the nhl.
Goalies
Whose the Canadian born in New York?
They stopped making our goalies.
There’s more Americans on team Canada than quebecois. Crazy
Manitoba: Stone, Jarvis, Sanheim… (?)
Seems like MB should be 3 and AB should be 5 (Makar, Hagel, Morrissey, Parayko, Thompson)
A better question: who cares?
Must be those French language laws!
I like seeing Manitoba getting a slight boost! We love our hockey here.
Would be better if you used the same colors to make this much easier to read. Data should be beautiful.
What’s weird I met a parent who told me the cost of playing, in Montreal at least, and it was way lower than in Ontario and they got more practice time.
he province’s decline went from producing every player, then mostly goalies, now to almost nothing
I believe that the cost of living is so expensive, that parents can’t afford to hire personal trainers for their kids to become an olympic caliber hockey player.
2014 Should be 3….St.Louis got there because Stammer got hurt, though he was still a star player at the top of his game. Montembault pissed his spot away this year with awful play. 3 vs 1 is not as bad optically as 4 to 0. Bouchard was in the mix (but was actually born in Oakville).
The bigger question is how did Quebec go from the province that created generational icons like the Rocket, Beliveau, LaFleuer, Lemieux to offensive stars like Lecavalier and St.Louis to not having a Quebec born player crack the top 30 in Canadian scorers…Anthony Mantha is the highest at 36th. He’ll top 50 pts for the first time playing with Gino and Crosby. Then its a drop-off to Lafreniere (57th) and Mike Matheson …
Its not a QMJHL question as Crosby, Marchand and Mackinnon all developed in the Q…
The forwards aren’t scoring, if you were forced to name the top Canadian D-men I’m not sure Matheson gets in there…
The era of the Quebec Butterfly Goalie is gone with Brodeur…for our second most populated province the math is not mathing…
Imo the NHL hasn’t had an elite player from Quebec since Huberdeau left Florida. Can’t speak to what caused a fall off of this degree, but the potential stars to come from the province (like Dubois or Lafreniere) just never got to thst level
Demographics and luck. Québec’s growth has stagnated relative to other provinces and that has translated to hockey development.
You’re banned from making charts.
Switching the colours of the provinces is ridiculous lol
Les Québecois son pas assez bon pour faire l’équipe. Il y a pas beaucoup place.
Private Equity and the cost of entering the sport are killing it
I hate pie charts. New York State?
What is new york state? Thats not canada
He’s from Saskatchatoon
