Does anyone actually think he’s going to take over in the Olympics when he can’t even take over against a regular NHL team? I remember the four nations hype and then he ended up getting stapled to the bench
Everything surrounding Petey and the recent coaching staff screams of a situation where Petey wants the reins to lead and sees a road to success, but the coaching staff refuses to relent. Yet he’s too polite to tell them off.
Mixed messaging from coaching is quite evident with how awful the team has been, and that translates to the ice.
“The thing with that is, you know, like, we’ve really been at it, thinking and getting super like, at the end of the day, I mean, he knows, and we all know, that like for sure, like, thats what it really comes down to, is like, for the team, ya know.”
Adam Foote, circa 2026
I don’t think Foote’s in a position to question anyone about hockey lmao
Let’s be honest. He’d look a lot better if our highest point winger had more than 28 points (Debrusk with 28 in 56GP)
Your system sucks Foote
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a coach use as many filler words as Foote
The guy has zero confidence. How is he expected to take over a game with a plug like Kane on his wing. Brock can’t keep up on the rush . Put him in a position to be successful. Experiment , the season is gone let him play with some of the young speedy guys . The outcome of the games is irrelevant at this point.
Well we all think Petey can play at a higher level, and so does he. Good to hear Karlsson talk about Petey’s leadership too.
Is Foote ever sure about anything because I feel like whenever I read quotes from his media, he’s always saying something delusional or it’s just a bunch of words and no actual point is made.
I know everyone hates Foote but he’s 100% correct here
I dislike how Foote ‘answers’ question with lots of words but with no meaning.
« When you’re playing for an Olympic medal…it seems different. Like, it’s just different ».
« Petey, I think has another pace, it’s just, you know, it’s just the work ». BE MORE SPECIFIC. What pace are we talking about here? What work?
I wish he would just shoot the puck more. It’s not rocket science as to how his most productive seasons were when he was averaging 3.21 & 2.52 shots per game.
The guy is shooting 1.70 & 1.86 shots per game which is the lowest of his career.
The real rocket science question is why. Be it mentally or a long term wrist injury that hampers his shot. I don’t know but it’s been two seasons now and he needs to shoot the Fing puck!
Pretty confident Petey will rebound to PPG status once he is traded. Too much crap happened the last two years and his confidence has been shaken. Move him on and wish him the best.
Idk, I’ve stopped believing at this point. It’s been 2 years.
I hope he has fun but I have no expectations of him to perform anymore.
All talk until we see him get back into that gear.
Its funny how every coach has had to say that Petey needs to do better, but in here we still insist its a winger problem.
If the Canucks had Two Adam Foote would they be Adam Feet?
He’s on tanking pace. He knows the assignment and it’s not keeping Foote here for next year
Worst drop off ever
I read the comments from Foote and Karlsson as largely making the same point:
1. Foote is saying that Petey has the ability to step up more than he’s shown this season. He hopes the Olympics will help him do it.
2. Karlsson is saying the Olympics will require Petey to play real good to have a chance to win, but he believes that Petey can do it.
In my view, these two people are largely making the same point–that Petey needs to be at his best in the Olympics, but he has that level in him.
The title of this post seems editorialized to make these comments seem as dissimilar as possible.
Linus Karlsson is his friend and teammate, not his head coach. case closed.
That’s why I don’t mind trade talks about Petey, atleast let him find a place to flourish. The management saying they are scared of this happening should just question their own decision making.
I laugh that they call out petey so much specifically. Hes not really a goal scorer and is leading the team in points currently. Where are his line mates? Boeser has 12 goals in 50 games. Debrusk? Garland? Invisible. Kane? LOL, no. What support does he have. Petey is a 2 way forward who can make plays and put some pucks in the net. He’s not the reason this team sucks. It starts at the top. It’s not Petey’s fault you gave him 11 million per year. That’s not gonna turn him into Crosby or McDavid. Hes simply underperformed along side the rest of the players under foote and this management.
No rookie is about to call out a vet. LOL. What did you expect. Coach is just holding him to some accountability.
I think * »questions Petey’s pace »* is an editorialized post title.
I would agree with Foote because I think what he’s saying is constructive but then I’d be accused of hating Petey.
I’d love to be wrong but I think I gave up at some point last year I just don’t see it anymore
Oh he’s gonna be exposed
Either his body is breaking down or he’s never really trained hard off the ice and essentially is out of shape, or a combination of both, either way he’s and average skater and lost about 7km on his shot this year, a shot that he’s not fast enough to get open to take. I don’t think it’s a between the ears thing, he just knows he’s not getting to loose pucks so plays an ultra conservative game
With his knee injury, he’s lost a step, both from his top speed and the quickness of his first step. Look back especially at how he used to create separation in tight quarters (aka breaking ankles). He’ll still do it and sometimes get the defender going the wrong way, but then can’t exploit it like he used to, because he doesn’t have the acceleration. It isn’t a character issue, or even a confidence issue really, except in that he knows he can’t create space like he used to.
Man this thread really attracted all the whiny haters. Can’t we just let the guy play and enjoy without having a thread dedicated to just bitching.
Seems like the more he « owns it », the worse he does.
stop being so negative self….
before the season :
“Petey and I had some pretty good discussions this year. I really think he wants it. I really think he knows what he has to do, and he’s going to dial in. He’s got a great group around him, supporting him and being a team for him, and I’m going to make sure that I have that conversation with him and we continue that relationship, and I support him,” said Foote.
“For Petey, just for him moving forward, I think that support for him will really get him in a good place, and we’re going to make sure that he understands that we’re there for him, and we’ll do whatever it takes and have a great relationship.”
lol looks like that didn’t go to well eh, you’d wonder at what point we just move on from Petey and just do a full reset of the team, don’t really care much for Foote either but great for the tank.

His shot used to be heavy. I mean we know this since he won hardest shot. But it hasn’t been for awhile. To be honest, Foote needs to be let go in the off season and hopefully mgmt too.
We need stars to feel like stars. Look at tocc and flyers. Michkov is a shell of himself.
Our “1C” is a 3rd line winger on team Sweden and will block shots and grind the walls on both ends of the ice. Canucks Luck.
I just never understood the criticism from fans over Petey’s work ethics, i really don’t. I see him just skate hard on back checks. He throws the occasional hit and blocks a lot of shots.
If your criticism is that he doesn’t shoot enough or shoot well enough or otherwise generate enough offense, fair. But work ethics? Really? Would these people be criticizing the Sedins for work ethics if they’re still playing?
Feels like a bit of a clickbait title. It sounds more like Foote is being supportive of him and thinks he can play better (which he can since we’ve seen it in the past). Title makes it sound like Foote is bashing him.
Tocchet/Foote/Rutherford simply can’t relate to Pettersson’s personality.
They assume the all players who aren’t like JT Miller must be weak.
Miller was the weak one who was unable to control his anger
Problem with his pace is he just can’t skate like he used to.
Foote is right, but it’s hard for him to play faster when he’s gotten so much slower.
It’s not a lack of effort. He by all accounts came into camp in great shape. Accomplished everything they asked of him, but he still can’t move like he did pre-tendinitis.
People can questions the validity of the injury all they want, but the fact of the matter is the guys skating fell of an absolute cliff from the all star break on and never caught back up. If that’s never gonna correct itself then his game never reaches the heights it once did. He can still rip it, still has the vision, but he just can’t maneuver like he used to. It sucks, because the effort is there.
Well Foote is the worst coach in Canucks history and a total fucking moron so imma take what Calder Cup Champion/Leading Scorer in Abby Canucks history Karlsson has to say about the subject.
He’s over us. Petey scored the big contract. He’s achieved his goal. He’s over himself. Let him go.
Ur all over thinking it!!! He doesnt gjve a shit and dosnt put any work in. How many people need to tell all you guys this!?!
