Im not saying it would have made a difference or this was the right/wrong choice, but this coach is absolutely clueless in general.

In before the Petey Fans and Haters go at it.

Outside of the two goals he had against Slovakia, he wasn’t all that noticeable. I don’t even know what you say about Pettersson anymore.

Trade him for Byfield now that LA’s desperate with Fiala’s injury

I thought he was actually pretty good when he was in. That one sequence with two shots in tight was nice, and he did a vintage fake slap shot pass coming off the rush which was really nice too. Also some nice blocked shots.

He still looks slower than he used to, but effective nonetheless.

Eh most of the Swedish players were ass outside of Markstrom, Raymond and Zib. The coach especially was terrible like putting slow ass Landeskog against Hughes during OT.

I honestly thought his line looked good through the first two periods, especially in the first when they were by far Swedens most dangerous line. Then they basically sat him for the third and OT.

Im not saying he would have made a difference, but Ericksson EK and Wennberg getting double shifted and providing absolutely nothing offensively didnt seem like the play in my eyes.

  8. Trade him for anything. He’s cooked as an impact player. He was fine but just doesn’t have IT any more. Not sure what combination of physical and mental… really don’t know if this has happened in the NHL before.

Anyone putting this on petey is a clueless casual when literally every Swedish fan is constantly complaing about their shitty coach even going back to the 4 nations face off.

He’s slow and the team was behind 0-1, he also wasn’t very good in his own end, I think the benching was warranted.

Two chances to clear the zone here and he botches it and makes a brain dead second play, but nah lets just ignore this stuff and blame the coach!

Man I got downvoted to shit for saying this before, but his downfall directly correlates with his off ice relationship. I’m not for a second saying it’s his wife’s fault, but it is obvious hockey isn’t as important to Pettersson anymore. He’s never been a freak when it comes to off season preparation, and has relied on his talent. It is catching up to him now that he has other priorities in life.

Team swedens center depth was an issue top to bottom. Petey just happened to be at the bottom of it. Can argue he could have played more and Eriksson Ek less but the reality is neither were good enough for this best on best tournament.

Can anybody remember another player falling off so harsh

  14. debotch

Soooo. Not the boost to his confidence that we were hoping for? Sigh.

  15. funkiemarky

Why no Petey with Raymond? They looked dynamite together

  16. Radeon9980

He was invisible and not used in critical times.

  17. Icy-Pomegranate-5644

Petey is clearly best suited as a complementary player in his current form. He’s not your core, but he’s not worthless.

  18. cointalkz

He’s never ever going back to the player he was.
The biggest fall off in NHL history (literally)

  19. maketherightmove

Lukas Reichel had more points than Petey in this tournament.

  20. theboneandonly

Aquilini must love paying this guy

  21. Only-Nature7410

Kampf played 19 mins vs Canada.

  22. BrodyCanuck

Thought he looked pretty good in all the games I saw. Meanwhile Forsberg was out there with clear chances to shoot on net and goes for a pass turning the puck over for nothing multiple times in the 3rd

  23. sqwischy

I dunno if him getting 15 minutes would have made the difference. But I will concede that sam hallam is an absolute brutal coach.. forsberg, bratt etc.. Just completely mismanaged bench imo

  24. phantomgiratina

You’re telling me this is the same coach that coached Petey to his SHL MVP season?
