J’ai grandi à Long Island. Mon père m’a emmené voir des matchs au Colisée au début des années 70, quand j’étais enfant. Le hockey des Islanders faisait partie de notre rythme familial : le courage, le combat, la conviction qu’on ne quitte pas son équipe. Qu’un jour nous apporterions la Coupe sur l’Île.
Dans quelques semaines, je m’envole pour San Diego pour entamer une traversée de 3 000 milles à travers les États-Unis. Je viens rendre hommage à ma petite sœur, Katie, qui a été tuée le 11 septembre.
Cette année marque les 25 ans. Je voulais faire quelque chose qui exigeait le genre d’endurance et de loyauté que les fans des Islanders comprennent.
Je vis maintenant dans une petite ville balnéaire de Floride, mais la dureté de Long Island est toujours dans mon sang.
Au moins, j’apprécierais juste quelques encouragements de Isles Nation avant de me lancer.

Congrats man, keep us posted, also I bet 50% of that small town is from LI. I had an islanders shirt on at a tiny breakfast spot in Jensen Beach and one of the workers goes I’m from, Suffolk Let’s go Isles. There are dozens of us everywhere.

I nearly lost my bro on that day but luckily, he survived. We never got along that great until then and I’m thankful for him.
Ironically, he’s done a similar trip that you’re about to embark on. He said the biggest challenge was wild dogs and said a stick was his best defense.
