@Ligue nationale de hockey

Le hockey est le seul sport d’équipe sur Terre où les officiels non seulement autorisent les combats, mais les encouragent même et font même un petit shimmy pour les aider à se mettre dans l’ambiance 😂 Wow, quel sport incroyable ! 🇺🇸🇨🇦

That was to losen up before jumping in between these two fighters.

I’m a highschool teacher and I’m always watching hockey highlights in the mornings. Some of the international exchange kids saw a hockey fight and asked if the person was going to go to jail.

Apparently soccer does not allow first fighting.

  3. AmbitionNo834

I was at that game. The arena was deafening

  4. Tommyblahblah

Brandon Hagel never gets tired of lighting up Matthew Tkachuk. I love that dude.

  5. Advanced_Zucchini_45

Actually, it’s not allowed. It’s a penalty. It’s just less severe than in other sports.

  6. Unable_Apartment_613

It looks brutal and it is, but it’s also gentlemanly.

Fighting is not allowed, that’s why you get penalized for fighting. Neither is it encouraged by the refs. It’s tolerated insofar as you do not get automatically expelled and banned for a few games if you are involved in a fight.

Yeah, so amazing. Look at what it did to Probert, Boogaard, Rypien, Belak, and Montador.

Hockey is dangerous as is. You can be physically imposing without fighting, just like the NFL.  It is stupid risk killing too many players with kids and families.

NLL Box lacrosse also has the same fighting rules as hockey. Which by the way is one of the best sports around to watch live.

It isn’t allowed, that’s why there are multiple penalties such as fighting, roughing, and instigator penalties. In hockey a code has emerged where two guys who want to fight will be left alone to do it but the officials will still time their entry based on not wanting to get punched in the head. Box lacrosse also has the same system, while plenty of brawls in rugby will see two people separate and have a stand up fight. In all of them, the referees will penalise players once the threat to their own safety has ended.

    Still, it looks cool!

**Hockey is the only team sport where** **fighting is the** ***safest way*** for two teams with a beef against each other to resolve their differences.

In every sport, you get retaliation — you ran into me, I run into you.

What happens in baseball? Your pitcher hit our guy, our pitcher hits your guy.

In hockey, you’re moving at speeds up to 20+ miles per hour, with knives on your feet.

Without fighting, we would see more *retaliation* to settle scores. More full-speed, fly-by elbows to the head. More boarding calls. More slewfoots.

Fighting on skates is much safer than taking an elbow to the head behind the play. You use most of your energy just trying to stay on your feet. Fighters don’t get many shots in. The fight ends as soon as someone falls down.

Wish I knew what team Hagel was from.

[[For those watching with audio off: it plays the clip « Hagel from Tampa Bay » 3 times in the last few seconds 😉 ]]

  13. Hoping the dumb fuck brothers get a beat down tomorrow

In NHL where fighting is more normalized it’s just easier for the refs to let them at it and getting it done so they can break them up once all the gas is gone and they won’t resist the refs as much. I wouldn’t say encourage it but let it happen because of the reason above.

We won’t be seeing this tomorrow during the Olympics

  15. No_Elevator_678

The best part os its a penalty, and then we put them in time pit bpxs for acting like morons with see thru walls so they can stare at eschother when they get out of the penalty box at the same time

    Fucking love it

  16. Kilgore_Brown_Trout_

Ref is 100% a former fighter and he wants in

  17. Bellam_Orlong

While Tampa and Florida both make me furious, this was awesome.

  18. OcelotStraight9145

Hockey referees especially linesman are BEASTS! Imagine having no protection trying to avoid getting clipped by 90mph shots (when they chip it deep or rim it) never leaving the ice the entire game and then separating 200 pounds adrenaline fueled fighting gorillas with your bare hands!!! Those guys are undervalued. Amazing athletes!

  19. CodAdministrative563

Fighting is encouraged in the North American version.

    International olympic rules forbids fighting.

I do agree however that it’s unique to the sport and has become synonymous with the sport

  20. CommandHot3245

The very first organized hockey games had fighting.

  21. millsy1010

It’s unfortunate that this won’t be happening tomorrow at the Olympics. IIHF rules are much more strict on fighting and the players will be kicked out for dropping the gloves so it is highly unlikely anyone is going to fight
