Underutilized. The dude set up the goal for Canada and gave multiple chances in the first and 2nd. Should’ve had more responsibility. Marchand on the 2nd PP instead of this guy? wtf are you smoking.

  3. Technical-Line-9806

They lose. Shoulda used Nick more. He win.

  4. ManOnFire26

You don’t understand, we HAD to have the top line out there for 30min turning the puck over ever 12sec

  5. DasLasagna

At least he’ll be rested when he gets back! Right?

  6. newf_13

Coop is to blame for this loss , he over played his big guys and they were tired and made costly mistakes,, he didn’t utilize his other players strengths especially Suzi’s roll !!!

  7. Ok_Specific_3832

Nah we would have won if we had more frantic plays from the first line. It was also a really good idea to lean so heavily on a 19 year with not a lot of big game experience.

  8. throw_me_away3478

Nah you dont get it, when you have the chance to spam the Bennett line you just have to take it.

  9. AIcideBarbeau

Sad for him. He played well all tournament and was underused. I thought Cooper was a fan of his?

  10. patismyname

Marchand being horrible and kept being used was criminal

  11. MtlChtina

I was baffled by Suzuki’s underutilization. He was playing well and creating chances. Sure, he was losing some faceoffs, and maybe that’s what led Cooper to go with Horvat and MacKinnon instead.

It’s disappointing that Suzuki didn’t get a shift in overtime, especially when we opted to double-shift McDavid, who fumbled on his first 1-3 attempt and then tried that 1-on-3 move again—😒. only to turn the puck over. Crosby > Mcdavid.

  12. popejohnlarue

Canada dominated the Divided States of North America for most of the game, so I gotta give Cooper the benefit of the doubt when it comes to player deployment overall.

That said, when you have a player whose superpower is generating clutch goals (and who is a proven 3-on-3 chess grandmaster), you gotta find a way to get him on the ice when it counts. It’s not second guessing to suggest that GWG never happens if Suzuki and Marner are on the ice—it’s basically science.

  13. darthmcchub

Just stupid honestly, Marchand being dogshit and Bennett just fucking up repeatedly is somehow ok. Fuck the states.

  14. OpenMouthKissedHorse

Went Hughes for next Canada GM and Marty as the coach who says no!?!?

  15. NaySayers

    After the semi : « He’s a clutch player, he’s like a Swiss knife. »

In the final : « Hello, human resources?! »

  16. whyyoutwofour

And Brad Marchand out there skating around like he’s holding a stick for the first time in his life.

  17. radhorrorfan

    Disappointing but not surprising tbh

  18. jaiman54

I won’t ever understand the coaching logic of not playing Suzuki or Horvat more. As much as I like McDavid, you aren’t going anywhere if you’re trying to 1v3 in OT. The first odd man rush given where Binnington made a huge save in OT should have calmed down Team Canada to play patiently. However, the same guys were out again instead of fresh legs. It’s as if the coach thought that the rest of the roster were plugs than actual all stars.

  19. Upstairs-Zombie-162

Marchand bumbled the puck so often, what was his ice time

  20. toturoll

we would have left the country empty handed if it wasn’t for him. sucks we didn’t won the gold, but still a good fight.

  21. Eagle_Cuckoo

Not about Suzy specifically, but in my opinion Cooper way overplayed his top players and made a few odd decisions when it comes to the powerplay… It is what it is. It was a nice tournament.

  22. GoalElectronic5128

Cooper never gave him enough of a chance to come up big by limiting his minutes.

  23. x-man01

this might be controversial but I think he would’ve done better than celebrini on that top line

  24. Polypeptide

I hope this loss makes him come back hungrier than ever!!

  25. Electronic_Lemon7940

Crazy how he’s singlehandedly responsible for the team even being anywhere near the gold medal game and he gets no responsibility. He’s an NHL captain not some scrub. When he saves you and shows you what he does for us all the time, you elevate that. Crazy coaching.

  26. Particular-Boot-4528

I genuinely think the same, but I wonder is that because we’re biased since he’s our captain or are all of Canada’s fans thinking that too?

  27. Ask_DontTell

at the end of day, the team had its chances and didn’t capitalize which is why they lost but not using Suzuki more when he helped to set up the tying goal today with his board work and got the tying goal in QF is insane. it’s not like he’s bad defensively. the top line was a -2 today and weren’t able to execute. there must have been so many guys on the bench like Mark Stone thinking, give me a chance coach, just give me a chance.

ETA: i think Cooper fell into the same trap as the Oilers – over reliance on McDavid. unlike the Oilers though, he literally had a team of all star players, any one of which could have stepped up. it’s too bad McKinnon looked like he was playing hurt or something and Crosby was out but you have to be able to trust all your players at this level. anyway, really hope Nick makes Cooper regret his choices every time the Habs play the Lightning.

  28. newf_13

If your big five can’t score on the 5on 3 PP. you have to change it up , they play pretty much the whole 2 min of each PP.

  29. Minute-Performance67

People have to give credit to Hellebuyck, he was phenomenal.

  30. Sweaty_Result853

Cooper was hmmm odd in his choice. Lost of Crosby hurter Canada. Suzuki deserved more, he was very solid all around.

I also dreamed of Sid with the Habs, with Crosby we are Cup Contender

  31. flyinghouses

Cooper overplayed dudes for reputation and not performance in the moment and it cost Canada the game is my take. Suzuki could have made a huge difference the way he looked on the ice.

  32. Assignment_General

Cooper deciding to run his top line into ground helped cost us this tourney.

I’ll be happy to start watching Habs games again after this shit show.

  33. -Pistol-Pete-

    He s a specialist in 3×3
He would never have given a 3 on 1 like they did when USA scored

  34. Ask_DontTell

just looked at the faceoff stats – Nick’s biggest weaknesses by far in the tournament was faceoffs. he’s the only Cdn C not in the top 30 and #30 is at 47.5% so he must be below that. that’s probably why the coach didn’t play him more. Nick has to work on faceoffs this summer as that is a weakness of his and maybe his pivots as i felt like he did fall a few times during the tourney for no particular reason. overall tho, he was one of the most clutch guys out there so it was a shame he didn’t get more ice time.

  35. Medrissil07

He is 3rd most in power play points this season in the NHL. He should’ve had some time on the PP. Generally underused and misused throughout the whole tournament. They overplayed the top line way too much, and it cost then in that OT. What a shame

  36. clemfinney

Cooper played the Wilson/Bennett/Marchand line WAAAY too much.

  37. ThicccThunder

Hey, at least Bennett kept getting enough ice time to give other teams PPs.

  38. PleasantPierogi

Makes you really appreciate the habs team this year even more and the coaching style. It’s one big collective team. Not a bunch of superstar individuals all trying to be the hero.

Just always felt like McKinnon, mcdavid etc were playing for ‘their’ individual superstar moment. Each individual person wanted that 2026 version of the Sid Golden Goal.

Part of that sadly too is the coaching. Not putting Suzy out on the 5-3 is criminal, and shows John coopers lack of how much attention he’s clearly paid towards the habs PP’s.

MSL would be a great coach for the next Olympics.

  39. freydey_9

It felt like McKinnon had no clue how to handle a 3v3. He goes and rush 1v3 then creates a turnover.

  40. HabsFan77

I like Jon Cooper, but he seriously goofed up with Nick’s usage

  41. Critical_Beat_2421

    Coach choices weren’t very good.
You determine who’s “got it going that day” and play accordingly.

I saw Jarvis, Suzuki, Horvat, and Stone playing well but, as game went on they played less and less.

    Booo Cooper
