@Wild du Minnesota

I hope they decline like the Seahawks did. And I don’t appreciate his “joke” about having to invite the women’s team.

Talk about having a giant hard on all day, then this happening.

In before the mods delete this, but yeah, even though it’s entirely predictable that a chauvinist/mysoginist political movement and hockey culture would be a perfect match, it’s no less disappointing. Would love for just one of these guys to show some class and maturity, but not holding my breath.

This is just the reality of the politics of hockey in the US. They will absolutely accept any invitation that this administration offers them and will only not attend due to scheduling conflicts. American, and probably most Canadian players, are conservative. These guys are all rich, straight, white guys who grew up insulated from everything that wasn’t related to hockey. None of the social issues that we would like them to advocate for have any impact on their lives so there’s no reason for them to be educated on or speak about them. They are ignorant at best and complicit with this administration at worst. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that most of these guys don’t vote, and if they do the only politician they would need to support is the one who says they are going to lower their taxes.

I think it really sours the moment with players based in Minnesota posting this crap and celebrating Kash Patel being there chugging a beer saying « this is what America is all about » when we have ICE killing citizens and the whole goverment covering up a pedophile ring.

To me right now, that’s what America is all about right now. I wish it were different and I could be more prideful in the USA but it’s really tough right now with the people in power and what they are doing.

Thank god I am unemployed for like a week so I can drown my sorrows in booze after listening to this shit.. 🫩

Taking a dig at the women’s team while congratulating the men is so on par with that sack of shit, but I agree, it’s frustrating seeing wild players laugh at a shitty attempt at a sexist joke. You’d hope that the Hughes brothers in particular wouldn’t laugh at that, but I’m going to try to not read into it too much.

Between this & patel being there – it’s pretty fucking gross. Definitely takes the wind out of the sails seeing the guys post pics of that googly eyed dumbass celebrating with them.

The bring the girls comment made me cringe. Wouldn’t be surprised if the women turn down going and the men go.

Given the demographics of hockey and the costs associated…. I’m really pleasantly surprised that my home team sub is full of people who seem to recognize this fucking sucks. Trying to hold out hope some of these guys will apologize to the women’s team… those hopes are not high.

Guess Jack’s comment about Megan Keller was a fucking lie

Won’t even get started on Quinn and Faber

So fucking unnecessary. They’re under no obligation to laugh at that. Just a snide, shitty little comment from a shitty little man

I’m glad the women’s game was first because I got to genuinely enjoy that win with my whole chest. Don’t really want to think about how something I waited my whole life for, the men’s team win, keeps feeling shittier and shittier.

it’s deeply unsurprising but also very disappointing to see guys that a whole nation was excited for systemically marginalize a group of women that we were ALSO very excited for. it is on par w the kind of rhetoric that seems super prevalent in sports, wherein conservative misogynists make more conservative misogynists. kinda puts a tamper on the whole thing i fear. good job us women’s hockey team for winning gold.

  12. manmythmustache

This makes me want to support Heated Rivalry more because you know its popularity bringing more fans to hockey games is upsetting the homophobes in the NHL locker rooms.

  13. Loukoal117

I’m gonna keep my fandom to on the ice. A bunch of young, white, rich, privileged, drunk hockey players? They just won the gold of course they are going to glaze the president even though he’s the biggest piece of shit ever. They would probably be ridiculed by the whole hockey world for expressing left wing style opinions. It sucks but it is what it is.

l’m not going to let this spoil two gold medals and my love for the team and players.

I wouldn’t depend on professional athletes to share a lot of our ideals. The majority of them come from completely different worlds than us. Celebrate those who do try to make a difference for those without immense wealth and privilege, but assume most will look out for their own interests.
