Jon Merrill is the greatest hockey player of all time.

  2. WideGap6125

BTW with Merrill gone who the hell even is our Hockey is For Everyone Ambassador?

I’m pretty sure it was Coyle then Dumba then Merrill but now Google just brings up Faber being a Special Olympics Ambassador with no word about Hockey is for Everyone

  3. DecentLurker96

    Merrill is so fucking authentic.

Thank you so much for sharing – I hadn’t heard of this organization before, but it’s an incredibly needed and important message right now.

  5. Glad-Fish5863

Thank god for Jon Merrill. I miss him.

  6. averageuhbear

Jon Merrill is a great guy.

Also want to call out Dumba who got a lot of heat for being on the right side of things.

I adore this! Support the women by attending PWHL games too! The hockey is fantastic, family friendly environment, and more affordable than NHL games. Win, win, win!

Addendum: Even if the « joke » was a result harmless drunken stupor I hope between Heated Rivalry, Hockey Canada, and now this. I hope Hockey Culture takes a hard look at itself. I can promise you that Merrill isn’t the only one trying to make change. The problem is too many boys club people are in a power and squash meaningful change from happening. I hope more players fed up with the narrative around the culture start speaking out

I’ve been heartened to see the reaction from What Chaos! etc (everyone but that dipshit Portnoy) an I hope- HOPE- some of these players can grow and see what has upset female fans. I do not want to stay Big Mad at Quinn Hughes, and his brother Jack, but at the moment I’m disgusted. Rough day to be a lady hockey fan.

In a world of Tkachuk’s be a Jon Merrill.

  11. InsideMyScars

Fuck yeah, this the type of masculinity that needs to be shown loud and proud! Not some bullshit AI video of a fat rapist pedophile pretending to do something he never could.

  12. LisanAlGuyFieri

How hard is it for one of these guys to drop a simple “it was stupid, I’m sorry” in response to this?

It seems pretty obvious at this point that “yeah, well we trained together – they get it” isn’t a sentiment that the women’s team shares.

  13. Smokey_02

And people wondered why I always liked Jon Merrill. A little hint, it wasn’t because of his play.

  14. Earnest__Hemingway

I would like to point out that Jon Merrill was included in the big spreadsheet that tracked all the NHL players and their (sometimes) alleged sexual assault/harassment histories. His entry came from his time with NTDP.

I don’t say this to discredit Jon but rather point out that people can in fact change and learn if they desire it. I sincerely hope that this is that moment for some of the boys.

Another in a long line of common W’s for Jon Merrill.

  16. majessa

Legendary VGK right winger (for 1 game).

  17. Yall better be booing Hughes when he steps on the ice or you’ll be folding just as easy as every player in that room did during the phone call

  18. onemintyisland

Not to mention that American women’s team has been consistently better than the men’s for decades…

  19. new_nimmerzz

The Women’s team has medaled in every Olympics since ’98… They are WAY more successful than the Men… Just one of these players making a statement in their defense could have ended this as a whole. Then just the individuals who want to have an opinion have to defend themselves.

    👏👏👏👏👏
And to that little boy who can barely grow a fucking mustache, this is being negative LOL
The toxicity of hockey culture has got to go

Jon used to hangout at the bar I bartended at after some of the games. He was damn near a regular for our breakfast staff. I had the pleasure of serving him some drinks and getting to know him – he’s a terrific person. I always really appreciated how friendly he was.

  22. Reasonable_Context85

Couldn’t have been said much better can’t lie, need to fix the right-wing culture of hockey

Thank you for sharing, I needed to see this 💗

Jonny Vibes is always setting the tone.

  25. I have a daughter that played hockey, and one year there were no more girls in her age bracket (3 registered).
In response, they made the boys Peewee coed, and put the 3 girls on the team.
She played rt wing, and played hard. She made assists, she made goals, she was in the top 3 fastest kids on the team, and a strong skater.
In spite of all of that, there started some bullying, led by one kid in particular, but followed by several other boys.
To say these boys were assholes is almost an understatement (kid suspended for tossing another kid and breaking ribs, kid suspended for taking a baseball bat style swing at another players neck, etc.). She played 2 yrs with those kids, and then never played again (even though the jr varsity team wanted to bring her up early).
The following season that team had a big fight in the locker room that resulted in broken noses, and several kids to quit on the spot.

Feels bad because she would have been great on varsity.

What I’m getting at is that this kind of shit does need to stop, and it’s more prevalent than I think most understand. This is a good statement put out, and mad respect for calling out the behavior in an adult manner.

Has anyone @russo? Might be a good topic for him to address on his next pod.

You can’t even check in women’s hockey.
