Seeing Merrill be vocal on issues the NHL tries to take a neutral stance on makes me feel bad for all the Merrill and a 3rd jokes.

Seems to be a rare player with a strong moral backbone.

Let’s see how long this stays up. Why the fuck is anything critical of Jack being deleted in this subreddit? Absolutely ridiculous.

I’m glad at least someone is speaking out 👏here come the downvotes though 🙄 Apparently they doubled down about being excited to go to the white house, I know I wouldn’t be excited to go to a pedo’s house 🤔

  4. I love this take. As a (former, I’m old now) female athlete, that really hurt to see. Those women do deserve better.

Too bad liberals don’t donate to charity.

Not a Devils fan, glad to see people speaking up about this issue. Was a fan of the Hughes bros until their political actions following the win. They could have been more neutral and classy, but they are choosing to be used by Trump tonight.

Yawn – who cares. People take this crap out of context so much. Anything to drag down the US winning moment so fringe hockey fans can get angry about something

Trade Hughes for Merrill. Known good guy. Also mods quit deleting posts you self righteous police

I have felt deep shame of certain Devils’ actions and statements in the past couple of days. This makes me proud. Thanks for sharing. I needed this.

Wow is it interesting to see how people get so rattled at athletes/celebs, etc who are allowed to own different opinions and most importantly, owe you nothing!

After the president made those stupid/horrible comments and players nervous laughed, on what planet is the person holding the phone with the president of the united states (no matter how horrible of person he is) is going to hang up the call? The brain or collective brains doesn’t work that fast, they cant instantly read the room and get consensus on the situation they are downing beers and on a major high from winning but you malicious jealous fucks want to take that away from them, why?

It was a great hockey game, we were all entertained, leave it at that!

I’m glad to see people in hockey talking about it. The only way shit’s gonna get better within hockey is if people in the game bring uncomfortable stuff up and make others confront it.

I don’t think Jack or most of the other guys in the locker room are evil or anything like that: they’re mostly 20-something jocks who have probably gotten to spend most of their upbringing avoiding important issues or needing to take much of a stance on anything. But we’re in messed up times, and nothing’s going to change within the game until people those inside the sport will listen to makes it a topic that can’t be avoided.

When the POTUS inevitably makes another joke at the expense of the women’s team tonight, we’ll see if Jack has any backbone now that the booze has worn off.

Otherwise it’ll be funny how much more balls the women’s team has than the men’s.
