I’m disappointed, beyond him captaining the Leafs, but also because he’s accepted his role as ambassador of the Latino community in hockey.
He’s served as the face of both league and team-wide initiatives around Hispanic Heritage Month, he did a Sportsnet feature eating at Xola (a Mexican restaurant) and discussing the importance of that culture.
To willingly represent that community but then stand beside the man villainizing and illegally detaining members of that community (not to mention villainizing the country that he actively lives in) is just such a complete values contradiction.
