Don is tone deaf beyoooooond belief here
    Holy

  2. GenerationEh

I can think of a few reasons why Canadians are so interested in the United States right now, Donnie.

  3. SheilaFudge

Maybe the women aren’t going because Trump is a known misogynist, rapist scumbag, Donnie? Have you spent more than 3 seconds pondering this?

  4. The_Tin_Hat

It’s not about being ‘angry as a person’, it’s about refusing to be used as political pawns in a state propaganda machine by a wannabe dictator, actual war criminal and obvious pedophile that is currently ruining people’s lives across the world. If you want hockey to be apolitical, then don’t go to this massively political event.

Edit: sorry I forgot he’s also a convicted rapist and felon.

Donnie, you couldn’t be any more tone-deaf if you tried. These last few years sure have been disappointing finding out just how many ppl you once thought were decent humans, come out to show us all their true colours. Imagine comparing going to see the Eiffel tower to going to the white house to rub shoulders with a pedophile war mongering president of the country who threatens our sovereignty as a hobby. You’re an ass hat and an asshole. Just come out and say that you’re MAGA. We already know you are.

    Like I said yesterday.

Opinions like this are not from evil people, they are from people that just don’t have empathy or experience. They don’t have the courage or forethought to help anyone outside their sphere.

I don’t know Don Taylor’s background or what his problems are, but I can surmise that in Don’s « world » the plight of immigrants, women, LGBT and other issues just don’t register. You may as well be asking him to care about bread prices in Spain.

Don Taylor probably isn’t a right winger and probably doesn’t have anything bad to say about any groups targeted by the US Republicans, but he also is a comfortable guy that cant fathom sticking his neck out for anything outside of stuff he can see or touch. He is a classic centrist « well, both sides have their crazies! » moderate that will gladly pat themselves on the back as we do better on social issues as a society, but wont do anything to actually move things forward.

This reminds me of MLK, who said that White Moderates were the greatest stumbling block for the liberation of Black people:

    >First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to « order » than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: « I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action »; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a « more convenient season. » Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

Don, this isn’t a player going to the White House with his family to go on a tour of the west wing. This was a personal invitation by the president of the United States and they will also be paraded at the State of the Union where the president is likely to say the most insane shit a U.S. President has ever said. These players don’t have to reject the invitation, but they should understand that at going, they are showing at least indifference to the administration’s policies.

The thing that gets me is how people will bend over backwards to make excuses for Trump.

Taylor says that Trump is taking a shot at the media and left-wingers with the comment on having to invite the US women’s team.

Well, why the fuck does Trump even make the comment on the women’s team during the call? Why can’t he just congratulate the men’s team without making it political? Trump is the one making this thing political!

This whole MAGA movement operates on creating political controversy and then immediately playing the victim. No one ever takes responsibility for what they say or do and they’re always blaming others for « blowing things out of proportion » or « playing politics » when that’s pretty much all they do.

I adore Don and think he’s a top 2 alltime Vancouver sports broadcaster. But between this and his take on « why » he didn’t like the super bowl halftime show, it’s left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.

  10. KimberlyWexlersFoot

Buble seems to have a head on his shoulders, maybe he should call in to explain it like don’s 5

  11. Don it’s better to be thought of an idiot than to speak and remove all doubt.

    You’re embarrassing yourself.

  12. Chadoobanisdan

“You should be grateful to receive this opportunity to see a pretty building, regardless of how much its resident misogynistic, convicted rapist, and alleged pedophile has directly insulted you and diminished your accomplishments. It’s a neat tourist attraction, just like the Eiffel Tower!”

  13. arazamatazguy

    This is super fucked up.

Does Don Taylor not understand the importance of protests at any level??

ICE is murdering people in the streets…… »yeah but still, I’d like to see the White House ».

  14. RogerDogerBoop

Maybe it’s because he represents the threat of US invasion, regression to global fascism, an increasingly violent police state, rampant pedophilia among the world’s elite, destruction of cross-border trade that Canadians pay attention to American politicians…but hey what do I know, I just live here.

  15. JunoMeru

Glad to hear that a man has an opinion about why women shouldn’t have been offended. How refreshing. /s

  16. Handydart

I’ll preface this by saying Im a longtime fan of Donny, I’ve listened to him since Pratt and Taylor and watched him on sportsnet for years as well. He’s generally pretty grounded and has pretty reasonable reactions and takes but this is by far the most tone def response I can remember. There’s no excusing the phone call period. The orange one has proven who and what he is time and time again he’s earned no benefits and all doubts. Even if the political landscape wasn’t what it is today and tensions between countries aren’t where we’re at this would be a pretty bad take but all this put together makes this actually one of the worst takes I’ve heard from any sports media guy in a long god damn time. Holy hell.

Drance… call Donnie out on this. He’s misrepresenting the issue people have with his comments. He’s risking losing lifelong listeners/viewers with this and it’s going to have consequences for your shared show.

The women’s captain and all-time leading scorer.
Scored the winner in the gold medal game just proposed to her longtime girlfriend.
This is an administration that has called her very existence an abomination.
If Trump attacked my teammates like that I would tell him to shove it too.
Even if it was you Donnie!!

  19. Low_Contract7809

Listening to Don the past few years and reading between the lines, it was clear he leaned right.

He doesn’t come off as a rabid magat, but it’s now clear he’s trump tolerant and doesn’t see anything wrong.

  20. deeho88

Holy shit…read the fucking room, Don. Fuck, read the whole fucking hockey world. It’s stemming out of into non hockey watchers too.

Also, there are now social media posts where the women’s Olympic team is liking the criticism towards the men’s team. I think it’s safe to say they’re upset with them, and Hughes isn’t going to throw her own kids under the bus.

  21. Sion1989

Yeah I just unsubscribed. Plenty of voices in sports to listen to. I don’t need another out of touch one.

  22. ChatamKay

Omg it’s not left or right. He’s been accused of sexually molesting very young girls that were also victims of trafficking. The asshole that partied with the players is actively protecting the president.

Donny really thinks a group of young women that achieved greatness should go and listen to an accused sexual predator lie to the world for two hours so they can see the House of Representatives chamber?

He calls people that see this reality angry?

We live in the upsidedown. We really do?!
