What’s wild to me is that in the history of my Canucks fandom, I’ve truly never seen the fanbase more wholeheartedly support a player. This fanbase can obviously be ruthlessly negative but Hughes never got one single second of criticism.
To the point where sportscasters knew that if they didn’t mention Hughes in the conversation for best defence in the game, they’d have an army of angry Canucks fans after them in their mentions. It became basically a law of hockey journalism is that you dont mess with Canucks fans and you dont mess with Quinn Hughes. Our zealousness is part of why he’s so universally considered the 2nd best D in the world.
Which is why I’m legitimately disappointed that he would not have the slightest appreciation for what this president has done to disrespect, bully and downright threaten the people of Canada. He knows that Canucks fans have always had his back and not only did he refuse to re-sign, but he’s happy to be a political prop for a man who tries to humiliate Canadians on the world stage every chance he gets.
This fucking sucks.
It is unfathomable to me… and unthinkable a year ago… that we will be booing the hell out of Quinn Hughes when he steps onto the ice. The kind of boos that Marchand was used to hearing around here.
