@Hurricanes de la Caroline

Totally agree and I hope the mods do not delete this.

  2. anivoflean

Trump is a pedophile and Slavin should be ashamed

  3. Venaixis94

After what was released today by NPR all but officially confirming from the admin itself that Trump is a pdf, Slavin should be embarrassed.

  4. Substantial-Finger76

Wish he would have taken the Guentzel/Nelson route and just said I’ma stay home with the rest of my team and get back to it and avoided all the political nonsense.

I hate that it’s Slavin. After everything he and his wife do, only for him to skip the opportunity to stand by his public morals…I know most hockey players are conservative, but this one stings a little more due to who it is.

~~Edit: add Helly to that list of « get back to my team work we got games to play » crowd.~~

Edit 2: when I read initial article I read Connor and immediately assumed Helly, when infact it was KYLE Connor who said we have work to do in ‘Peg. That’s on me.

I’m 100% out on Slavin after this. Shame, but open support of this president is truly an indictment of someone’s character.

  6. CasTimber

I love how when you point out that the president is a degenerate who touched kids, all his supporters on his sub can say is stuff like « go touch grass » or « Obama did crimes too. » Because they can’t say « there’s no evidence he touched kids! » But they’re still in his corner. An unfathomable level of cognitive dissonance.

Slavin has really shown his hypocrisy here and he should be ashamed.

  7. Independent_Sir3734

One would think a man with a black adopted daughter wouldn’t openly support a president who’s a week removed from posting an aggressively racist video of the Obamas but I suppose I shouldn’t be shocked at a Republican compromising his morals anymore

  8. These-Tonight-1672

You can’t stand on the morals he says he represents and pander to the person who shits on these morals constantly – at best Slavo is just supporting the team but damn if it don’t make me want to snatch a maga repping fan at our next home game

  9. gordon2121

Had the chance to just come home. Disappointed

  10. Madame_Jarvary

This is why I never trust the churchy types. It’s all performative look-at-me crap

  11. SMA2343

    I said it in r/hockey

I’m so disappointed in Slavin. He’s a Christian man and apparently just cares about hanging out with a blasphemous child rapist who put his name on the word of God.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from him, especially with a black daughter. I have lost so much respect for him.

  12. SpentGladiator77

I get that most hockey players don’t share my politics and that’s fine.

I get that it’s an honor to visit the White House and meet the President in normal times.

We don’t live in normal times. It’s not a secret, the things the President has done.

At some point you have to take a stand and say this is wrong, or you’re complicit, I don’t care whether you agree with their tax policy or not, or whether you voted for them, or whether you don’t get involved with politics. This is bigger than politics.

Huge bummer for Slavin to participate.

Always knew he was pretty maga adjacent (he is a registered republican, speaks at Liberty University, and posts pictures of himself with Charlie Kirk, but I had hoped he would at least bow out quietly rather than showing up to shake hands and be present as a guest of the president at an explicitly political event.

Same people will complain that pride nights are politics being shoved down their throat but players going to the state of the union and partying with the head of the fbi isn’t political.

Also to the people saying that players don’t have to have the same views as you, he’s being hypocritical to his own beliefs by being present there and either explicitly approving of what they are doing or refusing to comment on it which is tacitly supporting it.

  14. StrayPemi1022

I read the list of players not attending hoping to see his name, but unfortunately not surprised. Of course the “keep the politics out of sports” folks will be defending this.

It’s hard to see what was a great game be overshadowed by all this mess and kash Patel celebrating like he won the game.

  15. Positive-Tap-8723

How can anyone with daughters shake that person’s hand? Truly disgusting.

Honestly, I’ve been disappointed in Slavin ever since he went and did his speech at Liberty University. He is not a true Christian, just pretends to be when he feels like it.

  16. theproginalson

Honestly most of this conversation is missing the point. It’s not a visit to the White House that is the problem. It’s being guests at the State of the Union. Going to the State of the Union is allowing Trump to use the team as propaganda to deflect from the shortcomings of this administration. And no that’s not something that normally happens like it is being claimed by some in this thread. I personally have a problem with the hypocrisy of Slavin in this case. He claims to try to shine a light on child exploitation, while simultaneously being used as a political pawn by a man who at the very least is making an effort to cover up what is more than likely one of the biggest child exploitation cases in the history of the world.

  17. banjo_hummingbird

I grew up in the evangelical christianity that Slavin is involved in now. Not surprising in the least. I can already predict the handful of evangelical responses he would give if pressed on this. It’s a shame because I do believe he sincerely cares for this cause and for people.

For the sake of his children I hope he can one day deconstruct from this type of evangelicalism. I wouldn’t put money on it though.

  18. packfan17

One day his daughter will be old enough to know what this means, and I hope by then she has people in her life who are actually fighting for her.

  19. Heartofgoldband77

This is really disappointing. He didn’t have to say a word or make a spectacle of not going. All he had to do was not show up. Because anyone with two brain cells would’ve known that he was distancing himself from an administration that clearly and loudly stands/acts/has acted contrary to his values and the things he claims he cares about.

  20. dukefan15

IJM is not a good organization btw. They require employees to be Christian and have a whole host of other issues. I say this as a Christian

  21. ironminds

I was already out on him after the liberty university talk he did but now I am extra out on him

  22. interwebztourist

Disappointing but not surprising. Evangelicals have protected child abusers for a long time.

  23. Icy-Director6819

I’m honestly so devastated. I thought so highly of slavo 😓.

  24. TheMole171

    I’m tired, boss.

Every single man that attends the SOU tonight is now rock bottom in the barrel of respect for me. And it hurts a lot that Slavin is one of them. I honestly don’t know if he can redeem himself (in my eyes) given all of the circumstances.

Fuck literally everything about the last 48 hours.

  25. RandomObserver13

Massively disappointed. Beyond that, I’m too sick to say anything else.

  26. 86_Ambitions

Mods spent the day closing threads because the comments went too hard on pedophiles. Hilarious.

  27. cupidclaude

I’ve known for a while that Slavin and I don’t agree politically (like his talk at liberty university), but this is so disappointing. I don’t see how someone with a daughter, especially a black daughter, can cozy up to an insanely racist, pedophilic man. I get visiting the White House is an honor (🙄) but the state of the union is so far beyond that. Especially when I’m sure he’ll be talking about Epstein, and Epstein survivors will be in attendance

  28. Plane_Way_3023

Not surprised but still very disappointed. Very.

  29. Carolina_Blues

If we start losing, it’s slavin’s fault for activating the Trump curse
