Mailloux type trade?
Soft_lover1
If he wasn’t a RHD he would be the third best d in Laval.
sexmath
Would be nice if he developed a mean streak and a workout obsession.

Hughes has smartly lowered the expectations and what this team needs out of Reinbacher by getting Dobson.
At this point he just needs to be a solid 2nd pair minute muncher to fit in our rebuild, and I still believe he can be that if he stays healthy (big if I know).
SnooEagles4263
This is irrelevant. It’s a projection with too small a sample size. Until he plays some consistent minutes in the NHL, we don’t know what he is.

Biggest L of the Hughes admin thus far. And not judging by result, but by process.
To think your evaluation of these teenagers is so proficient that you take a D man in the top 5 of a generational offensive draft is extremely arrogant. In that situation you take your top ranked offensive prospect, which would have been Dvorsky or Leonard. The odds of offense hitting in a draft like that is way higher. They basically nuked their upside with that pick; bad process, even if Reinbacher turns out to be a stud.
Huge miss. Sucks they had to learn that lesson the hard way. Luckily Lane Hutson was such a steal it’s made up for that mistake and more.

Whats the accuracy of this persons model? I find it hard to believe the odds are on Reinbacher being a bust

Sounds like he is doing better in laval lately but from what I saw in pre season I didn’t see anything that stood out. He doesn’t seem to have anything elite to his game. Shot, hitting, passing, vision, speed there wasn’t 1 aspect that was like yup thats why he was a top 5 pick and that will translate to the NHL.
Lots of D who are « good » skaters for their size and can throw it around the boards. I see him at best a Ghule lite or taller Carrier. Probably a guy who has to play 200-300 NHL games to establish himself as a 5/6 guy.
I am sure there will be lots of copium and hopium about the pick but hey if he turns into a decent NHLer its not bad for a non top 3 pick at the end of the day. Only issue is his value is dropping and this team doesn’t really need a 5/6 guy especially when Dobson, Hutson, Matheson, Ghule are all signed. Could have used him for a trade chip if he was basically going to replace Carrier. You can get a Carrier for a Barron or cheap on UFA market.

i was kinda mad when they picked him over michkov at the time, but they dodged a bullet since they skipped on a guy with ton of red flags despite the talent.
and no one drafted after reinbacber in the first round is actually being really special right now, so they didn’t really missed out on a potential superstar/franchise player.

I’ve been saying this guy is a bust for a while, saw him play live a couple times too, really not impressed. I might be right!
Oracle-of-Guelph
Yeah, that’s no bueno.
AngryAssyrian
Don’t wanna be that guy but I never understood the decision to draft Reinbacher at #5 on the day he was drafted. I still hope that he makes the team but so far this is looking like a huge miss.
TroubledMarket
I don’t mind picking him at 5OA, what bothered me is Hughes making the team better in the summer of 2022, knowing the top 5 picks were likely going to be impactful NHL players.
He acquired Monahan, Matheson and Dach, on top of not selling Edmunson and Anderson.
Aggressive_Low7995
But it’s still premature to really project forward with any confidence considering how much time he’s lost to injuries the last couple years.

They are deep enough that they have time to wait. A very fortunate thing. He can play in Laval this year next year and see how he improves. Unlike the Toronto Maple leafs who have no prospects and their trajectory is going in the opposite exact direction. Our future is right. Our window is not now, although we can have a successful playoff run. Our window is next year and the year after and going forward after that. Great things for our habs. I’ve been a fan for many, many years. Seen many Stanley cup parades and it’s 73. I hope to see a few more. Have a great evening everyone!

flyingturkey_89
We don’t need him to be an offensive juggernaut. We have Dobson and Hutson for that. We just need Reinbacher to be the Toews to our Makar. A stable player who can contribute offense safely
NME_TV
That’s just how you get giant RHD.
You either pay 16,17 Heinamen or you pick top 10.
Look at Mailloux and Barron, late first rounders.

Trying to project a 21 year old kids career after having injury problems for the last 2 years will just never be accurate especially when he plays the hardest developmental position. Let him get lots of games and hopefully a good playoff run with Laval this season and judge next season. I expect him to play a good many games with the habs next season if he can stay consistently healthy the rest of the way.
popejohnlarue
The Draft Year portion of this chart makes me question the validity of the whole thing. I thought a huge part of Reinbacher’s appeal was that he was assessed as a player with a modest ceiling (#2D) but a relatively high floor (#4D). He was seen as a safe pick. That doesn’t sound like a prospect with 43% bust potential to me, but wtf do I know.
