    > **‘Not moving back’**

    > Jones and governor Dan Hilferty won’t commit to making the playoffs but tell the media that the Flyers are done making “changes in order to get better for the future,” adding that “now, it would be about staying on course, which is advancing. It’s not about moving back.” Jones says they owe it to the players to add to the team after years of subtracting.

It’s funny to look back on this proclamation. In recent weeks now, Jones said the players will decide if it’s still a rebuild. It clearly still should be based on their play. So will we see the front office act accordingly, or will they stick to their September plan?

Not selling at the deadline should be inexcusable. We can’t just proclaim « the rebuild is done subtracting » when the team clearly needs to continue subtracting and acquiring more long-term assets.

This team is right where we want it to be. On the brink of failure. Right on par with their heritage and culture.

What moves are there to make?

Risto is nice, but he’s a depth piece for a contender, lots of contenders don’t have a first to part with at this point.

There are options with less commitment than Tippet.

I think lots of teams are looking to see if they can get Thomas, Matthews or Pettersson in the offseason.

I think the off season is going to be telling, if they miss the playoffs, I could see Konecny and/or Sanheim asking for a trade/willing to waive their trade clause. Which wouldn’t be the worst thing. We have plenty of wings and middle pairing D men. Maybe we could get some pieces that align with this team’s window.

This is the definition of the mushy middle.

No because they are not fully committed to it. You cant suck for a couple years get two top 10 picks and call it a day. You build your foundation through the draft. They basically only lucked into Martone and Michkov. They werent trying to finish that low. Michkov only fell to us because of the Russia situation and uncertainty around it plus the KHL contract.

Flyers are now a team built with no foundation. They expect to get the pieces teams covet via trade which is not logical. Briere has said again and again. Cs are premium. People want 1sts for 4th line Cs. The idea that we are going to get a #1C and #1D via trade market is absolutely asinine. Never mind the team doesnt have the balls to take risks on young players like Wright.

Until the team is willing to do that it will be continuous bubble team seasons for us.

I have not seen anything that would lead me to believe the rebuild is working. We have improved in some areas, havent addressed others, and regressed in other areas.

Vladar was a nice addition, but Ersson has shown he cannot even be a reliable backup. We have a plethora of right wingers, but still lacking centers. We have some grit, but no real star power. Defense has some bright looking youngsters, but then we have some guys who need moved.

It really is just a mess.

They haven’t even started the rebuild. It was a retool. It’s failing, unsurprisingly. They can’t even play their best young player in the right position. They better hope Martone is a 60 goal scorer for 20 years but they still lack anyone to take the top center or defenseman spot.

I have full faith in 2 years they’ll find some other alumni to trot out there as GM and president with a new slogan how this time it’ll be different and they don’t have enough flyers culture in the last regime.

  7. I know they sell merchandise but I don’t understand how TK and Sanheim are going to help this team when they’ll be on the tail end of their careers when the team is ready to contend. Why not retain on both and get massive hauls back for them.

You could trade TK and use what you get on prying Thomas from the Blues(or be ready when another top C/D becomes available). You’re still strong on the wing and now you have a player that can play 1c.

Your centers could be Thomas – Zegras – Dvorak – Couturier. Wings are still the same except minus TK plus Martone.

TK and Sanheim on this team give me the same vibes I had with Voracek, Giroux and Simmonds.
