@Red Wings de Détroit

Reporters can say all they want, and we all know this is the year to add and help the roster, but ultimately it’s up to Yzerman if he wants to make a deal.

But in reality the most likely scenario is him sitting on his hands yet again and bitching about prices while other teams who actually care about playoffs find a way to wheel and deal

If Larkin would have been injured last night the team wouldnt have any top 6 caliber centers. He needs to do something. Copp shouldn’t be on the 1st or 2nd lines

The only way Yzerman can guarantee a purchase is if he is willing to get fleeced by some used car salesman GM. He cant force another GM to sell at a reasonable price.

If he does get fleeced just to make a move, none of these people better bitch at the price.

If Yzerman’s only options are 1. Get fleeced and 2. Do nothing, then i am FIRMLY on the do nothing train.

I like the fact that Bultman labels our pipeline loaded with B prospects. Better than an empty pipeline for sure … but we can’t pretend it’s loaded with near- to mid-term difference makers. And a percentage of them won’t work out at all.

Carolina is a team that’s mostly stuck at very, very good rather than great. Their best forwards(Aho, Jarvis, Svechnikov, Ehlers) are all a rung down from exceptional, and they keep producing solid but unspectacular prospects in their pipeline. Incredibly hard to win it all without some superstars.

All this talk like convincing a good player to waive his NMC to come here instead of a better tax situation or climate, and the team is willing to take picks and b prospects,….like it’s just a oh “snaps fingers and it happens”

We couldn’t talk Myers into coming here and Dallas was more than willing to silly over pay for him,

Detroits is not a “desirable” location

And building a long term contender means careful asset management.

We can offer up plenty of picks and b prospects, but we just get outbid, or the player says, no not there.

To get somebody irs probably gonna take a “stupid overpay” with a “stupid contract situation”

And since we have more than one hole to fill. And no position with an excess of talent to spare..it’s gonna be even trickier. We spend the farm to get a defenseman…great, now how do we get a first line winger and second line center? (Knowing free agents aren’t exactly fighting to come here.)

  6. I understand everyone wants to add and will be disappointed if we don’t. I just see the cost of these players like parayko, getting 2x 1st and even weeger getting 3x second round picks

Are you guys then ok with 3x firsts for trochek? Imagine we trade kasper cossa and a 1st for him. I imagine everyone would be upset but I bet that’s the type of cost.

I’m almost fine with Yzerman not making a deal if these are the costs.

    The city’s getting restless Stevie.

Golden opportunity last night to force the toddfathers hand and give Cossa the nod and maybe the heat isn’t coming down broadway like this.

That first shot Talbot let it was horseshit. Any other goalie last night we probably win that game.

I wonder if the Wings will move on from Rassmussen. He was paired with Larkin and the two had a bad night. If the Wings do shake things up, releasing/trading Rassmussen and bringing in someone else with playoff experience would make sense.

I don’t think he’s going to do anything, and I don’t think it comes down to the cost of trade, or not being able to secure guys with term. And I hate saying this, because I very much want him to make a splash.

I think in Steve’s eyes, and the reality of the situation, is that this team is not a Cup contender right now. It’s probably a playoff team, and one that needs to learn how to win key games down the stretch and hopefully a couple games in the playoffs, maybe even a series.

Until then, I think he’s probably right not to make trades and give up prospects and assets. The time to do that is when the team is seriously contending, not just to give it a push into the playoffs.

  10. ResponsibleWing8059

Maybe nobody wants wings prospects. If that’s true, and Stevie believes he’s got a good pipeline then he doesn’t need anymore first round picks. So trade them. Every team in a rebuild wants draft choices. Nobody want the bottom 6 guy like Soderblom and Rasmussen

  11. 2IWontBeHereLong

I’m hoping but I expect nothing. Besides a top six forward, scoring defense men would work as well. It’s been a long time what is he waiting for?

I don’t know if he is waiting on our recent draft picks, won’t be enough roster spots all of them anyways.

Anyone who doesn’t realize the plan was not for success this year is once again missing the point. This has been bonus good hockey.

It sucks. I want moves too but I also don’t want this to stall too soon because we got greedy.

  13. Various-Tax862

I’m okay with not doing anything. I don’t want a rental just to get bounced round one or two. We aren’t contenders

  14. CursedLemon

I’d like to just point out that the Wings haven’t made the playoffs in a decade and yet people are expecting them to let go of assets like we’re gunning for the Cup, e.g. first-for-Walman type of stuff. The absolute last thing Yzerman needs to do is overpay for a middling player. Looking at the field right now, the only player I think that is worth opening the purse strings for for is Thomas and he needs to *want* to come here.

I really don’t know what to make of this deadline. I was hoping all year they’d add someone to the Dcore but these prices our outrageous. Ristolainen and Bunting as a potential top 6 forward were the two that seemed most realistic a few weeks ago but with Nashville winning more lately I was wondering if they’d end up being sellers. If we could add both for a 1st, 2nd, and a B prospect I’d be happy with that.

But if Ristolainen ends up costing a 1st+, you have to walk away from that.

I’m over Yzerman tbh. How many years have we been doing the exact same thing with the exact same results? Dude has zero feel for defensive talent and constantly misses
