He did not go for a 1st. The CAP DUMP went for a first.

Still unbelievably pissed about the whole Dickinson situation.
Benning traded a 3rd for him because we needed a 3C and prioritized his contract over Petey and Hughes, ending in us not having enough money to lock Hughes down to 8 years and forcing Petey to take a bridge deal.
He plays and has a decent first season where he came exactly as advertised. Then in his second season, he has a lingering hand issue that the medical staff and management refuses to believe in. Proceeds to play through the entire season with a broken hand. Understandably sucked through most of it.
Management then proceeded to declare he was washed and pays a 2nd to Chicago to take his contract.
Chicago’s medical staff then addresses his broken hand. Lets him heal, the team puts him in a positive position on the roster and he proceeds to put up a career year and bounces back completely.
Now he has enough value that the Oilers are happy to send over a bad contract and a 1st for his services.

The issue is that the Canucks cannot afford to take on bad contracts for high draft picks because the worst contracts in the leagues are our own.

They could take cap dumps had they not signed fringe and ineffectual players for a retool. Under normal circumstances Dickson and Dach get less. Blame ownership.

It was worth it getting off that Garland extension with a NMC.

For the 800th time… Dickinson 50% retained, Colton Dach, and Mangiapane’s cap dump was for a 1st.

No context here. It is a Top 12 protected 1st. Go look at how often even that becomes an NHL player. Contenders don’t care much for them. If a team really wanted a 3 C, it’s worth it to them. They don’t need a 1 or 2C. They also gave CHicago Mangiapane, who is signed for next year. They wanted the cap space.
I am surprised even Blueger didn’t get traded. I would have dangled Hronek for a haul.

Canucks fans yesterday were saying we were getting Kent Johnson for Garland or a first round pick lol. Our fanbase just doesnt understand. These contracts we have are undesirable. Our players are having « career worst » seasons, including last year. Our best players, other than Hronek, would have to be sold at a huge discount. Nobody wants Boeser or EP40’s contract without retention. Blame management for getting us to this point, for sure. But right now, im sure there was very little the team could do to make this fanbase happy.
