@Hurricanes de la Caroline

Can you blame them? FLA is out. The east is ours for the taking and we did NOTHING! We held onto prospects and we have no idea if they will be bonafide NHL players or not. This team has like 4 1st round picks and cap space and we did NOTHING. How is that even possible?

The year we won the cup. We had a great team, on top of the east, then we traded for Doug Weight and at the TDL we acquired mark Reechi and went all in and do you know what happened? That year the team won the cup. They did not win the cup by going the we like our group route.

It’s interesting, on one hand I think we should’ve gone all in but then I’m like on who? Seems like most guys available weren’t a true upgrade or didn’t want to waive their NTC for us.

    I mean when Kadri is fetching a 1 and a 2, and Nick Roy is fetching a 1 and a 5…..

The market was way overinflated. I’m all for making the team better, but not by making dumb moves.

Not getting Tro back was a fat mistake. That 2nd line is gonna get eaten alive come April

This feels like a golden opportunity squandered with florida, montreal and buffalo going to be significantly better next season

John Carlson went for a 1st rounder and he can barely move on the ice anymore.

We had picks to spend but if the Rangers wanted starters it makes sense we said no. Shame, though.

  7. bennjeff

Rod is just upset that he still has to look at KK everyday even when he’s scratching his name off the lineup card and sending him to the press box

Having players coming into the final stretch unhappy with the organization is not a good place to be.

It’s the classic dilemma of are making a move because you *need* to make one or are you making a move for the sake of making a move?

That’s not to say the Canes have a perfect roster. They don’t. But it’s a roster that’s at the top of the Eastern Conference and there didn’t seem to be an obvious, slam-dunk upgrade there for the taking.

So why risk blowing it up trying to fix a problem that might not exist?

  10. n0rea11y

Today wasn’t the mistake. It was the Guentzal offseason and trading Necas without addressing any needs.

Anyone who wanted to help the Rangers dig themselves out of the hell they’re in, for Vinnie T. is a fool. These prices were too high. We can win a cup with this roster. 1 guy wasn’t putting us into a different tier.

  12. Higgnkfe

Kinda odd the players would be disappointed, considering some of them would be the ones losing their spot on the team, and do the not believe they have what it takes to win the cup? Have some self confidence dudes

I am not sure Kadri was or would have wanted to play here. No knock on us. But I think our interest in him pre-dates and its not like he would be completely ignorant as to the potential fit he’d bring. That being said…
I’m underwhelmed. I appreciate not wanting to break-up the chemistry and maybe that is really more the truth in all of this. The team and org have always listened to their players to a degree, or it seems they appreciate that and have obviously been on the other end of messing with chemistry from previous seasons.
I think this was a collective choice between players, coaches and ownership. This is probably a way to say sorry while acknowledging the dissapointment in the fanbase and not beating around the bush about the obvious why’s (top in the east, florida out, others did make moves, etc).
And it IS done. TIme to move on to game time with the Oilers. Lets hope they messed up their chemistry enough that we can take the 2 and move on to the Kadri-less Flames tomorrow.

Where’s all the confidence in our chef gone? We’re at the top of the conference and just shy of the top of the league. There’s very few moves actually worthwhile at this point and just because it’s in the budget doesn’t mean the choices we have are the right ones. We’ve seen how important chemistry is in our lineup.

Yet RBA sadly may be one of the reasons players dont want to come to CAR

The market at this deadline was crazy fucked up. Tons of 1st rounders being thrown at guys who aren’t even close to that. I mean honestly, Justin Faulk went to Detroit with a 1st included. Asking prices were just simply too high.

Let these teams throw everything in for the Cup this year if they want. We have term on a lot of our guys, cap space, and picks. Winning one Cup shouldn’t be the goal, building a dynasty should be, and you don’t do that by overpaying for rentals.

I wish they had gone after Robert Thomas. Kotkaniemi a first, second, and Nikishin.

I’m not sure if St. Louis would go for this exact trade, but something close to this would have been great.

  18. Last-Profit-7620

Getting a guy just to get a guy wouldn’t have worked. They’ve been pretty good at getting the right guy who fits. Like ROD Said we’re pretty good and teams are chasing us. Getting somebody just to get em could mess up our mojo.

  19. WalterYeatesSG

Making trades to nake trades is a losing proposition. The office has made big swings when they made sense, if they don’t make sense, don’t make the trade.

  20. ripinpeace12

Don’t love the apparent disconnect between GMET and Rod here. Unusual of him to make these sorts of comments.

I’d guess Rod wanted Trocheck back and was willing to pay the ransom Drury was asking for.

  21. bearamongus19

Unfortunately this just seemed to be a weird trade deadline

  22. epictoast345

Prices were definitely high this year. I’m guessing the front office has a couple players on their radar to acquire in the off-season — maybe Robertson?

  23. djphatpat2000

Rod is being honest here which is great but I think he understands how the Canes have operated for years now. All we heard was how high the prices were and Tulsky isn’t one to mortgage our future for a player like Trocheck. I don’t think there’s a disconnect, I have to believe Tulsky kicked the tires on Trocheck/O’Reilly and others but we weren’t going to pay the extreme prices they were asking for. RBA and players may be a little disappointed but we are set up well for the playoffs and to make moves in the offseason now too.
