Btw his excuse is bullshit. He could answer that question without mentioning which team offered a first. Multiple teams were in on Risto throughout this process. IMO that means the answer is yes. And if he turned down a first for Risto Danny’s seat should be heating up

If we didn’t trade away Brink I’d be angrier. At least we sold someone. Got the offseason and next year’s deadline to play this same game again with Risto

Sounds like something someone who turned down a 1st would say

He likely did not receive the offer.

He also is not going to get specific. He still has to trade with clubs after today.

But this is reddit so THIS IS AN OUTRAGE

Yeah. Keep him so you can barely miss the playoffs next year too and get nothing in return.

  6. This idea that trading Risto was a media circus based on rumors as compared to the reality that people just thought he should’ve been traded while he was healthy and had pretty high relative value is odd.

if it really was detroit deciding between risto and faulk, they would have inquired about price to both teams and it’s entirely possible detroit liked faulk more/decided to put up an offer there without an offer here. i guess it’s also possible they would have said what they’re willing to pay to both teams, blues takes it and flyers don’t because they want more. obviously if danny walked because he wanted a 1st round and prospect, rather than straight picks, that’s egregious. but it really may have been out of his hands if the negotiations went the other way. could have been the price was too high, could have been the wings were always leaning faulk.

If a 1st was on the table I think Risto would have been moved. I don’t think we got that offer.

The risk with Risto is his value could depreciate. If he gets injured in the remainder of this year it will add to the narrative. Plus time will pass since his Olympics performance. We’ll never know what the market was offering today, but his perceived value is unlikely to get any higher from this point forward.

  10. Just the latest example of why this franchise is stuck where they are. His value will never be higher, and you’re not winning with him, but of course he’s still here.

    Total joke

This is self preservation. He knows if the wheels totally fall off next year he’s vulnerable

Seeing how late the Det deal was announced, I suspect they inquired about Risto and if they offered the same 1st as STL got for Faulk, Danny made a bad call not taking it. I like Risto but he can’t seem to stay healthy and I fear his value is now gone. I’m patient in terms of the rebuild but I think Danny may be playing it too patient.

He turned down a first for us to get maybe a first in the off season to try and win now which is fucking stupid but not surprising because it has been and will continue to be the flyers way

This tells me that there was a first round pick but the Flyers wanted more like other recent trades. I bet even the Red Wings first and a third was offered but that was it. The Flyers wanted more and were stubborn. Personally, a first and a third is plenty of value for Risto IMO.

You’re damned if you do on this if you’re Briere. If a first was offered (and let’s say he didn’t like where the first would’ve landed) then he looks bad for not doing his job.

If a first wasn’t offered the Briere is doing his job as a GM and shielding a player from hearing they aren’t valued around the league.

From a PR perspective this is how a team should be run.

Detroit had a decent offer for Faulk and Danny must have wanted more than that.
