Great trade
This is a good trade. Big Dmen take a while to mature and he's a RD. DB is very good at trades and FA's. We can't depend on the draft because we are horrible at drafting, plain and simple.
Really good skater? Isn't the entire reason people give up on him that his skating sucks? And it hasnt gotten any better since 18? I'm happy to take the risk… but saying Jiricek is a great skater is a bit odd…
I hear his has a big slapper…if so, we sorely need this on the PP!!! And we needed to clear a wing spot for a Bump, Martone call up… If Toccs still forces MM on the LW I will go insane!!!
Russ I respect your prospect knowledge and insight..and let me say, I know zero about this player, but all I've been reading on this kid is that he can't skate. that he is slow and clunky and therefor puts him in bad positions where is makes bad mistakes.
Is anyone concerned of his record? He has been with two teams and sent back to the minors on both teams. We trade perhaps our hardest working forward, who can think and skate and we get a maybe at best? Does anyone know what happened to Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier? Another year of watching Avalanche, another year or two of not making the playoffs.
he can't crack the lineup in MN but as usual the Flyers think he is an all star.
We shall see how this plays out I mean our org has a meh track record on developing reclamation projects 🤞🤞🤞🤞
seems like a good gamble…..Hope Jiricek develops into a solid Dman. I love Bobby Brink, my favorite Flyer, but part of that is his personality, and how can you not root for a smaller player with great hustle and heart. But they did have an excess of forwards and too many are small especially with Barkey emerging. Sounds like we'll get a look at Bump, who has good size, and of course Martone is coming. We still have the big hole at center but we'll see how Danny addresses that; maybe an offseason acquisition or through the draft.
The part I like is "he wins puck battles". Very few of the Flyers do that now.
Well brink was being held back by our depth at wing.we should feel lucky gerin wanted bottom6 scoring.
Same size roughly if teach him physically get involved without taking stupid penalties should be a plus trade-both sides
Could the Flyers have traded Brink and a pick for Stramel and one we get more depth down the middle which we are hurting much more than defense and gives Martone a players he is used to not that he needs it but I was surprised we didn't get some stability down the middle with a center.
Minnesota Wild made a trade this year where they got a 5ft 10 superstar who at 26 is the Vancouver Canucks all time leading scorer for defensemen . 2 years ago he got 92 points on defense. The Flyers on the other hand make a trade and get a defenseman who can't skate or score. The Flyers rebuild is 51 years old. Happy birthday.
Hi Rachel and Russ. Thanks for the continued posts. I was watching the trade tracker like other fans yesterday, and a lot of fans ended up screaming at the screen, lol. As a fan, how can we better manage our expectations for the team? Frequently, if something negative is said about a team, no matter whom you support, you are questioned about being a true fan. In addition, team history plays an important part of one's opinions. But, with the league changes in the past 20 years or so, the fans and the teams seem reluctant to adapt to those changes and challenges. We keep living in the past. And, I feel that is part of what is holding us back. Also, when was the last time the team has had real player leadership? I really can't point to some one today? To me, we have players that are unable to take that next step either physically or mentally. Then, we keep drafting for one position or type of player and then give up the others who don't fit that mold or expectation. I'm tired of leaning on the bullies and legion of doom. I want to see better drafting, a change in management style, and some fresh ideas about how to win. Forcing players to fit the coaches system, refusing to adapt to game time conditions, and having a sink or swim mentality doesn't do the team any good. You have to invest in your players and use their strengths first while shoring up their deficiencies. You drafted a scorer, so why try to make him a grinder? The game is faster today. Our current roster can't keep up with that. Thanks, and see you next week.
